5g does not connect when I walk out the door (and lose wifi)

Anytime I leave the house I need to reboot my phone to get it to connect to 5g/data after.

Any ideas how to fix?

First of all, when internet tile selected, can you try to tap mobile network option on that screen without re-boot, if it does not automatically do it? I just wonder if not a quicker way:

You might try enabling Developer Options, and then “Mobile data always active.”

That keeps your mobile connection active when you switch to wifi, and as far as I can tell, it doesn’t cause any mobile data usage while you’re on wifi.

Do you really need to activate this in Developer Options? I routinely have both wi-fi and mobile data enabled without doing so and mobile data kicks in when, and only when, wi-fi connection is lost (like when I leave the house).

I think it’s different from the regular setting. The description reads:

Always keep mobile data active, even when Wi-Fi is active (for fast network switching)

It helps with my problematic phone.

Unfortunately, that’s not working as intended for the OP.

I’d read it that mobile data may not have been enabled in the house, I may have been wrong.

If that is preferred, however, then creating a new profile under System > System profiles may be worth trying, with the trigger set to losing wi-fi connection and the action to turn on Data connection. It may not work, but worth a try maybe.

Thank you for thinking with me.

So for a bit I thought the problem was gone, but yesterday I went for a walk and I had no data. My sim connections shows an exclamation mark.

I light of one of the answers I tried turning off use this sim and turning it back on instead of turning off the phone. It worked.

I still think this is a bug and it should be investigated. Do I need to file bug reports somewhere else?

Turning on data always is something I think shouldn’t be necessary. Indeed I don’t manually turn it off when I am inside. In expect my phone to do the switching.

I have no knowledge of how things function “under the hood” (aka “under the bonnet”), but it could be that the data connection goes into some kind of suspense mode or something. I guess it’s a question for the developers among us.

In any case, there must be some reason why the setting exists in Developer options.

I have been experiencing the same problem since upgrading to e/os/ 4.1 for sure, not positive if it occurred on 4.0. I also generally have to just reboot to reconnect to 5G, though I’ll see if the aforementioned Developer Options suggestion helps.

May be also worth checking if switching to Airplane mode for a few seconds … on return this is expected to deliberately reconnect to mobile network.

That oddly does not work consistently to restore typical connectivity. The only reliable process thus far besides a reboot has been to disable WiFi and both SIMs, them re-enable primary SIM, secondary SIM, and then WiFi.
