A52 4G (A52q) - Camera photo files too large

Hello,

Until yesterday I was using /e/OS 3.04 T (android 13, lineage 20) and always has an issue with the camera files which are way too large, around 90 Mo for one picture. I read on post on this forum some years ago (unfortunately it seems to have disappeared, my link is broken) that this issue was fixed in Lineage 21.

So I was full of hope when I upgrade yesterday to e-4.0-a15-20260612634536-community-a52q but got disappointed to see that the problem remains the same. I tried to reset the camera settings, to change the file format (JPG, PGN) or the compression ratio of the JPG, but no change.

Anyone having a similar issue or any idea how to fix this ?

François

I feel like I am the only one having this problem  .

I tried to create a bug report to see if it can help.

Bonjour, j’ai exactement le même problème que vous sur mon A52

intallation de mon os e avec odin 4 en mode graphique sur ubuntu

traduction en anglais:

Hello, I have exactly the same problem as you on my A52 Installing my OS with Odin 4 in graphical mode on ubuntu

You have to change the image Typ of the camera to JPEG only. Not RAW

Best wishes

@toto12 : thanks for confirming that I am not the only one with this issue. I would be curious to know if there anyone with an A52 who does not have this problem.

@jalmer : thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately I confirm that the setting for RAW is set to “No” and that the problem remains. More generally I have reset all the settings to the default values and I still get the large files.

In light of your issue #9725 and

After downloading the files on a computer and exporting them to JPEG again, the size come back to normal

Regarding a logcat; redact personal info and submit via a pastebin like https://paste.tchncs.de/

I would suggest to experiment with a GCam Port

There are many A52 threads in Open Camera discussions.

Not A52 specific some idiosyncrasies for Samsung mentioned.

Hi aidb,

Thanks for the pastebin information, this is new to me.

Following your suggestion I have tried an other camera app from the App Lounge GCam AI, and with this one I get normal size JPEG.

But I finally found an interesting point on the opencamera web site:

The “Image quality” setting has no effect for JPEGs on the Galaxy S10e (unless post-processing options such as auto-level or photo stamp are applied). This has also been reported for other Samsung devices;

I tried taking pictures using the date and time stamp, and then I get normal size JPEG too.

So it gave me an idea, I just add a customized text consisting of one space on the picture, we cannot see it on the picture and the file size problem seems fixed . Still there is a bug but at least now like this I can use the Camera app almost normally !

Bravo, nice fix  It is difficult to tell where the bug is and whether it can be overcome at /e/OS level but if the fix survives more testing I suggest you add your workaround to your Gitlab Work item for the benefit of devs and other users. Perhaps also inform https://sourceforge.net/projects/opencamera/.

Great, it works for me too! Thanks.

I have updated the work item in GitLab, but I also realized this issue and the workaround was mentionned in the following discussion in 2022: https://sourceforge.net/p/opencamera/discussion/general/thread/77492f4d/?limit=25#35b7
