Account won't sync and other significant startup problems

Dear all,
as a new user, I am trying to migrate from a Google environment to Murena E/OS on my new Fairphone Gen6. I am having significant problems and could really use your help, I’m literally getting into arguments with family and clients because I’m poorly available :frowning: My current issues are:

  1. My passwords won’t sync between my browser (Chrome) Murena.io password manager and E/OS. My Murena and both private + work google accounts are under Accounts in E/OS, and all Sync is enabled. However, when selecting a preferred account for autofill, the only option I get is None
  2. How do I add a Google Calendar to the E/OS calendar app? I can’t find any information on this except very technical workarounds
  3. The Murena welcome email provides a link for a Seamless Data Migration (https://doc.e.foundation/support-topics/migrate-data-from-google-cloud), but the page 404’s. Is there another manual available?

I am currently at the point of either: returning my FP and switching back to Android, or: downloading a full set of my Google apps so that I can get on with my life. Both options would defeat the point of having E/OS, so I feel like I’m missing something entirely about this whole E/OS. It is advertised beautifully and with great zeal, I fully support the idea, but not if it bricks my phone and subsequently my business. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Jan

Update: Under Settings > Accounts > my murena account everything is set to Sync. The google Accounts are also set to sync. I see that I can access my Gmail through the Google Mail app, for example, but Google Calendar and Whatsapp Backup will prompt a MicroG Services screen that wants me to log in. When I try to log in, it says that the G-account to which I’m trying to log in, already exists on this phone. And yet, I cannot select these accounts.
(The Forum somehow prompts me to wait before being able to reply, so I will respond when I can.)

Are you in a situation like this (??) Cloud synchronisation on fairphone 6 /e/OS - #4 by aibd

In that case it sounds like Factory Reset Protection (FRP).

One would have to go back to Factory Android and remove any Google account or sign in.

:mag: FRP

Tiresome … anti spamming.

“with great zeal” … expectation management in marketing copy is hard. I’d return to Google Android on the main phone and explore /e/OS on a secondary over a longer time. While a lot of Google products will work, if you’re strapped on time and use it in a business function it invites frustration. You want everything to work at once - it won’t.

One thing that eases a migration away from Google is diversification in the tethered products you use - as in not Google.

  1. Password sync Google Chrome ↔ Murena web passwords ↔ Cromite (in-built Chrome fork) on the device: that functionality isn’t there. The help page explains how to do one-time imports - but no sync. You’ll need more software on the device to sync from murena-web-passwords and provide the Auto-Fill service in Android. Unsure why it isn’t yet packaged in /e/OS that way. You could be better of with another 3rd party pw manager: Bitwarden, Proton, Brave / Firefox Sync even
  2. Google Calendar: those of your own Google user that you added through Settings → Accounts will be available - adding another users needs an ical link
  3. it was 404’d because apparently the webapp couldn’t be authorized again - that blame isn’t really on Murena imo as Google required probably an app audit. That intro Email needs updating
  4. unsure if Whatsapp backup restore from Google Drive works. Transferring the old directory will. On the migration page is a link to a 2020 forum entry that I think still applies - Migrate to /e/OS
  5. Gmail should work through default Mail app after having added a Google Acount through settings (as should event or addresses in the default calendar and contact app). If it doesn’t it’s considered a bug - even when you use 2 Google Accounts

I get you started to use Google apps out of desparation and run into microG complaining about “account already added”? not sure how many users are around to know to what extent this works, I’d start a separate thread for it

@aibd and @tcecyk, thank you for your input and efforts, I really do appreciate it. Fairphone has however offered to reset my phone to Android, and I have decided to take the deal. Yes, I am sacrificing my privacy in order to have user friendliness, but with my practical considerations I am willing to make that trade off. Still, thank you for putting in your efforts and perhaps until a future time
