I posted this in the Settings category but i am increasingly sure it’s an actual bug, not me misconfiguring it.
I’ve turned Adaptive Brightness off over and over. it turns itself back on and starts messing with my screen, that’s a big problem because it’s literally unusable outside on a sunny day. is there some way to uninstall it? disable it? turning it off with a simple toggle is obviously not working, how do i make it STOP??
One quick search and now I can see there’s a LOT of people who have a bad time with Adaptive Brightness and it’s been going on for years, but I don’t see anyone else suggesting they can’t turn it off…
In your search did you notice Adaptive Brightness: Everything you need to know - Android Authority. This includes advice to delete existing settings. Use of Clear Storage like this might ameliorate a state (if it could exist ??) of “always use Adaptive brightness”. If the setting exists in your build and Android version, actually not found on my device.
ah-hah, i did find that article but it sounded like it was more for resetting levels so I didn’t try it.
and now I find, that section just isn’t there, it must be regular android only.
I tested and adaptive brightness stayed off for a full 48 hours. The “keeps turning on” maybe device specific. Pure speculation may be an unnoticed a15 HAL issue for the device(s). I would suggest to Report an issue as already suggested and please be sure to mention the device by codename.
hah, yes, mine is a OnePlus 7t.
i switched from iphone to e/os, so I wasn’t originally sure what problems belong to the OnePlus phone, which ones belong to Android, and which ones come with e/OS specifically. (and which ones were me bumbling around!)
And I just put in the bug report. I have a chance to get a 8T instead of a 7T, but it won’t use the easy-installer and it just won’t be worth the work if it’s not going to fix that problem.
