Hello,
I wanted to write in french, but I’m not allowed to create a new topic in the french forum, so I try in English !
I use e/OS on a Fairphone, and the name of my ISP is Free.
I can’t access the internet, neither via mobile data nor via wifi : in both cases, the connection is well established, but when I try to load a URL, it stops quickly and says
“ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED” and to check my internet connection. But I’m sure my internet connection is well established ! Any other device connects smoothly, and the problem is present with any network. And my phone also says I’m well connected.
It seems there is a link with Advanced Privacy. When I disconnected their VPN in the settings, it suddenly worked. But I would appreciate to be able to protect my privacy !
What can I do ? I’m not a specialist at all.
Thank you in advance.
In fact, I’m not sure the problem is linked to Advanced Privacy, because this time I allow my true position, my true IP address, and there is no VPN, and it still doesn’t work.
does this help? Stock browser will not connect to internet - #2 by tcecyk
Thank you for your answer. Indeed, I forgot to say that the problem appeared just after I updated e/Os, which seems to be a common factor to many people encountering the problem. But in my case, it’s not only the browser which is affected, but all applications that need to connect to the internet.
The problem for the inquiry is that… now, it works ! And I don’t know why, because I didn’t change anything !! But I’m not confident at all it won’t happen again.
As my problem is not limited to the browser, I didn’t go in the browser settings, but in the system settings and looked for DNS. Just in case, I changed it from “automatic” to “private DNS provider” and I set it to “dns.mullvad.net”. It’s an encrypted public DNS service, and at least it stopped DNS leaks.
For the time being, it still works. But I can’t tell if it will work better or not…
Thank you for your links, and if I think about it in some weeks, I’ll come back to tell you how it works.
Same issue here too. Seems that the default DNS server sometimes times out. After specified dns.mullvad.net as mentioned, I had no issues.
You need to join the “group” … How to:
Sandwich-menu → groups (you may need to expand upper area, “show more”) → find the french group, join the group and save the changes
Hi @Claire I have added you to the French language section of the forum. You should be able to post there now.
Thank you for your help @Manoj.
