After dropping the idea to get FP6 I think I am into buying Gigaset GS6 Pro with e/OS from Murena.
Any experience to share from anyone please?

Iâm gonna buy it directly from Murena with e/OS already on it⌠My only concern is their rip-off shipping fee to U.K. ÂŁ41.54, not justified at all. The phone price is quite fair and the handset looks good
Just after they announced that they would stop selling parts for the FP3 I broke my screen 
. I was hoping to keep it but here we are.
I am trying to decide between the GS6 and the FP6, can you tell me what tips you in favour of the GS6?
Here are my thoughts:
Pros for FP6:I like that it is smaller in every dimension and lighter. it also has replacable parts other than the battery.
Pros for the GS6: claims to be rugged, has a better screen to body ratio, has wireless charging and is cheaper. (the claims of ruggedness are more from the identical VollaPhone Plinius than from Murena or Gigaset).
Ruggedness: Iâm not convinced by the ruggedness though, I have had the FP3 for 3 years, I work in construction in the day and do trial running at night and the FP3 has done fine. (it got run over by a van in the end but still works). Having an easily replacable screen and other parts seems more useful than claims of ruggedness anyway. The FP6 has GorillaGlass and the GS6 doesnât say what kind of glass. The only part I ever replaced was the USB port and that was probably from grit and that would happen on any phone unless it had a port cover. Wireless charging would make the USB port last longer, though.
Ethics: While Gigaset doesnât talk about ethics as much as Fairphone, one presumes that being made in Germany means the working conditions should be better than most other brandsâ factories.
Camera: It is hard to find much online about camera quality, what I have found is from normie versions so would have different camera apps anyway so I donât know which has better cameras.
I donât do gaming or anything that makes the processor speed important for me.
Are there other things that I should consider?

I carry my phones around in rain or shine walking my dog everyday all year round 2 hours+ a day and my clothing not always gives them good protection. I sat on a phone before damaging it badly , so however not in construction industry I want the phone to serve me well.
I love motorola flip phones but I am done with them and to be entirely honest, for a while I had thought of the FP6 with e/OS as my next handset. The reason I gave up that long held idea was the Fairphone useless/almost non existent Customer Service Mate.
So, my decision was more âpersonalâ to start with than based on the phone quality to be honest.
They sent it but their carrier (UPS, the same as with Murena unfortunately) could not get the phone through customs in Holland and instead of doing their job returned to sender. The lack of care about my order on Fairphone side made me think, well 5 years warranty, but do I want to get stuck with the awful Customer Service at Fairphone? So, greatly dissapointed, I spat my dummy, cancelled the order with them not too quick to re-send it and looked at Murena website.
Still Fairphone is most popular here they told me, much better Customer Service here by the way, but as I would still need to deal with Fairphone if any hardware problem happened with FP 6 I checked other phones here.
The Gigaset GS6 Pro, and specifically PRO with more memory looks good to me with e/os on it.
As I said, shipping charges are a rip-off to U.K., maybe they want to skin the Brits as they are French 
but no justification for a flat fee of ÂŁ42 via UPS if Fairphone take ÂŁ12 for the same standard service. VAT is the same and duty zero if classed as consumer electronic!
Forget the shipping fee. You had a good experience with FP3 but them stopping to provide parts, hmmm, how about âkeep it clubâ? And I get it You must have not needed their support at Fairphone but once with USB port busted - they are a bugger! So, your experience has been good with FP.
And I get your point Craig that the screen has no gorilla glass on GS6 with gorilla glass provided on FP6. I found some website confirming that difference in factâŚ
I think, if You have been happy with Fairphone 3 so far, and donât mind cr*p Dutch Customer Service, You might want to stick with the brand. I like the GS6 looks more but itâs not modular, the battery can be replaced easily, 2 years warranty vs. 5 years extended one with FP6. Worse display quality on FP6 but it depends on what You use it for.
I have to be honest Mate, I am disappointed with some âindifferenceâ of those âethicalâ companies when it comes to showing some care for the Customer but big tech companies are not any better and if you want to leave google behind the e/OS and similar systems are the way to go, unless one would like to get Graphene OS which funnily enough was designed for pixel phones made by google(!).
I think You have done your homework Craig and for You if Fairphone lack of good and prompt Customer Service is not a problem You might get FP6, GS6 or GS6 Pro might look too delicate for the environment You happen to use your handset in.
It does not look like one can drive over Gigaset phone with a van and still use it.
There is the German Shift phone as well, modular but they do not even provide a fully English language compliant website plus quite expensive.
I am sorry I cannot be of much help, for me it has been more like an âemotionalâ decision to leave FP6 behind. The only main benefit of GS6 seems to be a better screen display quality, made in Germany factor, lower price (at the moment) and better looks. They give you some bumper cover and screen protector but no gorilla glass.
Sleep on it and make your own decision Mate!

For instance, and quite sadly, thereâs a number of FP3 mainboards suffering from âsudden deathâ after all those years of their life, so potentially that leaves display modules which are still fine.

Sorry to hear about the bad customer service experience.
I ordered a USB plug module and a screen protector from them when mine stopped working and it arrived without any difficulty.
I slept on it and still canât decide 
. Iâll try to post here once I make a decision, it would be nice to hold them both to see which feels better in the hand.
So strange that no retailers in England sell Fairphones, you would think that someone would if only to virtue signal. I suppose it would only highlight the appalling nature of the way their fashion accessories with a fruit logo are made, and that is probably where most of their profit comes from.
Thanks for the suggestion. I also thought there would be some âfor spares or repairsâ on eBay but they only had fully working units that cost more than I paid for mine 3 years ago.

my FP3 will be free in some weeks because I am going to replace it by the GS6. Once I got that up and running, I can give my FP3 away for spares if it helps.

Thanks for that link. They sell it for a good price as well. Annoyingly they advertise the accessories but do not sell them so if still have to pay for international postage just to get a case.

Thank you csi, I will take you up on that offer if it is still available. Mine is still usable but a few black spots beneath the cracks keep growing over time.

I finally had my new GS6 Pro delivered with e/OS ver.4 pre-installed.
Great phone, well, feels a bit big after foldable Motorola RAZR 2022 but still all right.
Elegant and making a good, quality impression.
Canât comment on battery yet but does not discharge too quickly.
Soft cover a nice touch but the âcleverâ screen protector has been a big nuisance.
I followed instructions cleaning the phone screen which was out of the box anyway and hoped the screen protector would perfect;y attach, but it did not:
I did not leave dirty or greasy screen, no, and lifted the protector to turn it 180 degrees where then it did not attach on the opposite side. So, not a screen problem but I think the plastic protector panel is a bit out of shape in those corners, not quite flash to touch the phone screen.
With the âgluing agentâ that does not stick strong those 2 corners just lift in my opinion and it is frustrating on a brand new phone. I wonder if it is a common problem or an odd thing.
At least I can see right away where the bottom of the screen is without looking for camera lens
The buttons at the right hand side are a bit too low to my liking but I hope to get used to it. It is not a small phone but all non-foldable phones nowadays are big.
I might be spoiled a tad after 3 years of using Motorola RAZR 2022 which is a very nice handset I will miss but after its foldable screen broke twice I am done with Motorola company.
This Gigaset looks good to me with nice feeling when touching the screen, itâs precise each time.
The screen automatic brightness adjustment is bad, however that I think is e/OS feature and Gigaset cannot be blamed - Fairphone e/OS users keep complaining about it too.
I really like the design and good quality, if not the faulty, non sticking all way through screen protector it could be a 100% good experience.
The phone feels solid and the exchangeable battery (old style) is a nice treat.
Of course the screen protector will still work and the imperfections are not that intrusive being located in lower corners. The phone itself seems to be great. I got it yesterday and has been playing setting all up, transferring 30 GB of files onto it, downloading apps etc.
I even reckon that normal (not Pro) Gigaset GS6 could be more than enough as I suppose storage being twice the size of GS6 one is the only difference vs. GS6 Pro. I might have exagerated my needs
I am happy I ordered this phone with e/OS as it turned out to be a good choice - and it is made in Bocholt, Germany! Which is rare for handsets not to come from Asia side.
A very good first impression.
P.S. There is a sour taste in my mouth after I hoped for Gigaset Customer Service to resolve the screen protector issue provided with a new phone. They just fobbed me off, even if I said Murena did not have those separate and original plexy ones not available in U.K. where Gigaset website does not ship to U.K. (thank you brexit!)
It is only EUR 9.90 and you would expect they would take responsibility, pop one into a bubble envelope and post to me⌠No, they donât care. They are not a huge smartphone âplayerâ but already want to match unhelpfulness of bigger ones like samsung, iphone, motorola.
I hope nothing breaks in this phone with that attitude of Gigaset customer service.

My GS6 Pro is great but the screen protector which did not attach in 2 corners (see photo in previous post). When you get your handset Christian can You tell me if your screen protector was âspotlessâ and installed all right? I just wonder if I was simply unlucky with mine.
So this is official smartphone supported with mediatek chipset !
I was still considering qualcomm chipset for lineage os port. now time has changed as it is possible to run /e/OS on mediatek devices ⌠Interesting
I was able to pick my GS6 yesterday. I congratulated myself that I left the job of OS installation to others this time. I started 6 years ago with flashing the FP3 in a Qualcomm R&D environment at my work back then. Without a certain routine using these tools I may not have dared to do it.
What I find important on the first steps:
- A kind of cover was included From my experience, that little bumper delivered with the FP protected it 6 years and several drops, so no repair was needed
- Commerzbank photoTAN app works and passes activation process (that is the only almost critical app I have to use)
- Charging: It behaves again different to the previous mobiles I had. It doesnât charge a proven, 5 V 1,6 A charger I used normally. An existing fast charger works, but not at its full potential. Open to test: Will it charge at the USB outlet in my car?
- screen protector: I havenât installed it (yet). Never needed one as I always transport phones in an adapted decomissioned sock. This has proven to be an efficient and cheap protection.
Installation and configuration is ongoing as I also have other things to get done at home.
It will be interesting to see how long the support for it will last compared to Qualcomm devices.
At least in the past MediaTek was always considered to be trickier to work with.
