Knock on wood, it seems to be working now
I wonder whether there are any drawbacks to using a Google account when installing and/or updating apps?
I understand that the heavy tracking that happens in Stock Android is not happening in /e/OS due to MicroG. But my question is if just using a Google account during installation of an app might somehow have the Google account stuck in the system, potentially allowing Google to install things I don’t want (even if I use a dummy account for this purpose only)?
It is working again for me tonight also.
I am still having the issue. I don’t know about other users.
The main drawback is that it infringes Google TOS. Google may close the account if they detect that kind of use.
It works for me today.
Are there any plans to create a non-google app store which app developers can use?
Any way that could remove the current dependency on Google Play, which is really annoying to say the least.
I mean, either Aurora or F-droid might offer developers to upload their apps directly, instead of having to fetch from GP.
The EU should make it a requirement that public bodies and certain companies in the EU such as banks should publish any app going to play store to a European android compatible store. There are alternative app stores, but if the things you need day to day are not on them they are not much use.
This! We can write to our elected representatives in the EU to suggest this.
During 2025 it has become abundantly clear to everyone that we cannot be dependent on north american tech companies for our digital future!
I know what the App Lounge is and Auora Store…
For whatever reasons at the time the App Lounge wasn’t allowing an anonymous log in and Auora was.
I’ve been around these apps since they were created, this issue has been going on ever since, and the DEVs know, that is the reason an app like this, that might not work from time to time, shouldn’t be a System App, there is no reasons for it…
I only have F-Droid installed at the moment, the last time I had Auroa it still installed updates in the background. Also even with App Lounge as a System App it wasn’t doing this on my device, I had to manually update apps.
Something I feel like people are failing to consider here, if you are someone who has installed /eOS onto your Android device, you’ve unlocked the bootloader, rooted it etc… Then we are not Newbies here, we are users that can figure things out, so that is the reasons we don’t need preinstalled apps at System Level, we’ll figure out what we need.
Luckily I have the skills to get it off my device and not be affected by this. I didn’t just come here as a clueless noob, I came here cause Geeks discuss these things, so I hope the e DEV aren’t thinking we are all noobs here.
So If e wants to do this on the devices they sell, that’s another story… But seriously the geeks can figure out how to install and what apps they want on their devices. SO it would be really nice, all these so called System installed apps could be done user installed, this way… Browser, Gallery, App Store, Email, etc…
And if /e won’t offer us ROMS this way, listen, I’m grateful, don’t take me wrong, it would just be nice to have this, otherwise I’ll take care of it and remove the apps I don’t want.
And, no one is arguing not to install them on the device, but if anyone believes we need these apps installed as System Level, sorry wrong, we don’t.
I’ve had this issue since yesterday on a Fairphone 6, version 2.13.9. Sideloaded Aurora which is working. Has anybody tried resetting their phone to factory? I might try that, if it doesn’t fixes itself soon. Realizing I risk not getting any apps the “official” way ![]()
Just a quick update:
Updated to version /e/OS 3.1.4 earlier today, with no immediate effect. Now a few hours later, the App Store suddenly works again.
This is actually the typical behaviour.
Try later is the important ingredient of App Lounge FAQ
Ah I see, it’s just not stable, it’s i broken again this morning. Better getting used to that then.
As expressed in Post #6 it may be that Fairphone are affected more than other phones, but specific reports to Gitlab might be useful.
Logcat example in Post #16.
Thanks, that particular post was complex reading for me.
But deleting the app data has been working so far.
It is broken again this morning. As it happens I installed an update last night. It has always been a little bit unstable, and I would often have to logout and login again; but this is different these last 2 outages are different as they persist after you logout and login again.
I just checked, and it is working on my end (FP6), and I even updated an app. I managed to solve it by deleting the app data.
It started working again for me also. I did not take any action to fix it apart from retrying it again tonight.
Suffering the same on brand new official FP5 :
…. Is there some solution like caching popular things or similar. I remember it being bad many times, but I was hoping that 5 years later we’ll be in a better situation.
