App Lounge - cannot update apps because of my age?

Since a few days (probably since the last /e/ update), I cannot update any of my apps in the App Lounge. When I click on the Update button, the message displayed is: “You are too young to install this app. Check with your parents whether your age group has been correctly set or deselect Parental control to be able to install the app.”

I wish I were too young, but I really am not, and parental control is off.

I have already tried deleting the cache, logging out and in App Lounge, restarting the device, but so far to no avail.

Any thoughts on how to fix this, anyone?

I can’t see any age related option in app lounge, so, if you are showing as Anonymous user as on mine and parental controls showing as switched off it looks like some funny glitch on your device

Is it hapenning for any app or just a particular one?

Maybe for the time being You can get apps from Fdroid, APKpure or Aurora as a work around? (Unless too young on those… sorry.)

P.S. If it were me, I’d activate parental controls, check if any age selected there, change it and de-activate again. (Stabbing in the dark.)

I would guess the apps are age gated on Google Play for users in your country. Politicians are either idiots or they think we are and are pushing this kind of thing pretty hard. Try using Advanced Privacy or a VPN to appear as if in a different country.

App Lounge provides Google-play-store with a profile that holds some data like age, phone-model, country, language, android version.

You can change that profile in Micro-G settings:

  • go in Settings → System → App-compatibility(Micro-G) → Google-terminal-registration
  • Make sure the registration is on, try real profile instead of native

Try downloading apps again.

If that does not work, try downloading the app while activating IP-hiding in advanced privacy, just to check whether the problem has disappeared.

Revert your device profile to what it was.

Make sure that you did not switch ON parental control without knowing.

It is possible that your age restriction is an error wedged within App Lounge.

Success stories in current app-lounge threads seem to depend on the user doing “something different” rather than repeated attempts undo the reported issue.

Logout of App Lounge.
Clear Storage, rather than just Cache.
Power down, wait 20 seconds and Power on, rather than just Restart.

Wait a minimum of 30 minutes before returning. Be prepared to repeat and wait 2 - 12 hours.
Avoid Update all.
Be prepared to use Aurora store and / or F-Droid to meet your needs and give App Lounge a “changed working environment”.

Other effective changes have included Network change from Wi-Fi to mobile data or reverse.

It was happening to all the apps and I was showing as anonymous, with parental controls off.

But I tried your suggestion of turning on parental controls and that actually worked  .

So thank you for that stab in the dark!
