I tried all the usual things, clearing the cache and storage but, nothing made any difference. I could reinstall but, if I am still unable to install apps on it, the phone becomes useless.
Is this a glitch or has Murena introduced age verification for UK users? My partner (whose phone it is) who is due to go away in a few weeks and we were relying on the phones to keep in contact.
Anonymous. We both always use that. We don’t have Google accounts. I also have an update. At the time I was testing this, our router was switched off and we were both just using mobile data. I switched the router on and immediately the app store on the second phone worked fine, both for app updates and app installation. We are both using Smarty sims through the UK carrier, Three, for our phones. Interesting!
Which app was it that you were trying to install that showed this message. Google appears to be blocking some apps and we are seeing such messages even in India where we do not have any such age restriction rules.
Are you able to download the app with wifi and anonymous mode. Or is it still showing this message.
It was a messaging app called session. But, it installed fine under anonymous, along with the other updates, once the phone was connected to WiFi. I checked and there is plenty of data remaining on the account.
Maybe, it is much easier to just force this on everyone (worldwide) rather than some countries and not others, bearing in mind that over time, more and more countries are looking at doing this
If such a rule or check is set up at a software level, we should be able to bypass it thorough code level changes. As long as you avoid installing apps from the official Google Play Store the law’s requirements do not meaningfully impact your device usage.
Just an aside, glad you are having luck with Smarty. I signed up with them for Data SIM which died in the afternoon after having great speeds in the morning from a 4g Router. After signing up to FTTH with our current ISP the engineer installing the Fibre connection stated that 4g in Sheffield is an absolute mess.
Actually, I have found Smarty cheap but, not a great service either. We have them in the phones but, are planning to change to giffgaff which we have already for the 4g router and is very reliable. And fairly cheap too.
We are currently on Zen. I moved to them after the appalling service from TalkTalk. A bit more pricey than the ‘big’ names, but you don’t get script kiddies working to a script if problems occur, you get to speak to real IT people.
The only issue I have is they use a FritzBox! router. M’lady is still working and even connected with ethernet she could not access work. Had to go out and buy an Asus modem/router:
