The most worrying from a consumer perspective is, I believe, that big telcos in Australia can now dictate not only WHAT handset you are ‘allowed’ to use but also WHERE you are ‘allowed’ to buy it from. Telstra alone will supposedly make $80m from forced sales of ‘compatible’ handsets (while having a free hand of what they deem compatible).
The government here is willingly allowing another supermarket disaster where two or three big players can dictate products, services and prices at their will. And then they publicly lament the cost of living crisis…
Great lobbying work of the telcos, handsomely supported by the commercial media (guess where a big junk of their ad revenue is coming from…)
