BNP Paribas Fortis Easy Banking 40.62.5 no longer scans supported QR codes on Fairphone 6 with /e/OS 4.0-a15

Hello,

I am experiencing a regression with the Belgian BNP Paribas Fortis Easy Banking application on a Fairphone 6 running /e/OS 4.0 based on Android 15.

Device and application

• Device: Fairphone 6

• Operating system: /e/OS 4.0-a15

• Easy Banking version: 40.62.5

• Application installed through App Lounge / microG Companion

• Google device registration: enabled

• Easy Banking camera permission: enabled

• Supported links: enabled

Problem

QR-code scanning worked correctly on this phone before.

Easy Banking now detects QR codes but displays the following message:

“It is not yet possible to scan this type of QR code.”

This happens with several independent and normally supported QR-code types, including:

• Wero payment QR codes;

• Belgian Lotto QR codes;

• other QR codes that previously worked in Easy Banking.

The same QR codes work correctly in the Easy Banking application on an iPhone.

This does not appear to be a camera or focus problem: Easy Banking detects the QR code and immediately classifies it as an unsupported type.

Tests already performed

• Tested several unrelated QR codes;

• confirmed that the same QR codes work on an iPhone;

• confirmed that Google device registration is enabled in App Compatibility;

• confirmed that Easy Banking is allowed to open supported links;

• force-stopped the application;

• cleared the application cache;

• restarted the phone;

• tested with tracker blocking disabled for Easy Banking;

• temporarily allowed Adobe Advertising Cloud and Google Firebase Analytics.

None of these tests changed the result.

I restored tracker blocking after the test.

Expected behaviour

Easy Banking should recognise and process supported Wero, Lotto and other compatible QR codes, as it did before.

Actual behaviour

All tested QR codes are detected but rejected with the message that this type of QR code cannot yet be scanned.

Possible regression

The problem may be related to:

• Easy Banking version 40.62.5;

• /e/OS 4.0 / Android 15;

• microG or App Compatibility;

• a QR-code recognition or classification component used by the application.

Could another Fairphone 6 user running /e/OS 4.0-a15 (latest) and Easy Banking 40.62.5 reproduce this issue?

Hi,

I can confirm, with same Easy Banking app and /e/OS versions, but using instead a Fairphone 5.

I also get another bank app, ING Banking, that can scan the same QR codes without issue.

Got the same problem on a Fairphone 4 with iodéOS 7.6 (Android 16).

I suppose then that it’s related more to the parent OS which is LineageOS.

A lot of banks, however offering QR codes as the best method to connect, give you another, manual, way to register with some details to input provided. Imagine a person has only one device, a mobile phone they use for everything, how on earth would they scan the QR code with the phone if it is on the same device!?

There must be a different, alternative way to register without the QR code. If not change banks, vote with your feet.

Same for me, problems started when I upgraded to version 4.0. It still does not work in the current set up:

• Easy Banking version 40.62.9;

• /e/OS 4.1.1-a15-20260718651065-official-shiba / Android 15;

• Phone: Google Pixel 8

• microG or App Compatibility;

I can also confirm. Currently on Fairphone 6 and e/OS v4.1.1

Tried looking if there’s an exception when scanning in logcat, but haven’t seen anything so far, but will double check in a couple of days.

Same problem for me for some months with BNP Fortis too on Fairphone 6 /e/os 4.1.1-a-16
It worked perfectly before and suddenly stopped working. Other types of QR work well, only Wero doesn’t.

Same issue here, with BNP banking app in Belgium.

Is there any way to work around the issue, by initiating payment with another app than the official banking one? Or by reinstalling a previous version of the banking app somehow?

Hello.

Concerning alternative apps, I downloaded Bancontact Pays at it works well, from login to identification to QR codes reading. As it is 100% compatible with Were, there is no problem at all.

The only “issue” is that now I have two apps (bancontact pay for qr codes, Easybank for everything else) instead than one, but operationally the problem is solved.

In any case, I hope that the issue with Easy ank will be solved. I updated the table in the Banking app thread, but I cannot create an issue on Github

Hello again. I just upgraded to e/os 4.2 and this morning I was not able to complete an online transaction. When I was asked to click on the button to open EasyBanking, the button did not work. I could complete the purchase only because I had a card reader with me.

Has anyone had the same issue? Is this another regression?

I’ve just updated my FP5 to /e/OS 4.2: EasyBanking app seems to work well, still excepting the persisting QR code scanning issue.
