Calendar feature request: being able to 'orphan' instances of a repeated entry

On my former calendar (ipad) I used to enter a lot of repeated appointments and change individual instances of that series. In calendar I only see the options to change the whole series and change the series from that point on.

It would save me a lot of time if there would also be an option just to change an individual date.

I just tried to reproduce, take an event, tap :pencil: edit, and I see

In a series after the first entry I only get the two mentioned options. On the first entry I only get one, namely to change the whole series.

I work locally on an offline calendar. Working on a synced calendar introduced a lot of lag, especially with series. ( at least on earlier versions)

This is on 3.6-a15-20260312593772-official-FP6

Is this possibly due to the way that you created or imported the “series”?

As a test, if you take a random event and turn it into a series (tap One-time event)

on the calendar app on the phone do you get full functionality?

An observation (not what you are doing); the forum contains many posts where users seem to struggle to populate apps from the cloud; I think I never did that. It seems much more intuitive to work on the phone, then allow to backup to cloud (even if there is a lag).

All my entries were created natively.

As a test I created an individual entry and saved it. Then edited it to be a weekly reoccurring event without an end date. (my other entries usually have one) All other options are left to default.

Afterwards when trying to edit it still leads to the same result.

In the default Calendar app > Settings is “Add offline Calendar”. Using this feature I can reproduce the inability to fully adjust a series as you describe.

The calendar is expected to sync immediately on local changes but I do not remember noticing a lag while simply adding events.

It was on an earlier official version around november. I’d notice that changes I made weren’t updated immediately, which made ongoing work quite confusing. Personally, the calculus to syncing everything to the cloud hasn’t been positive enough either seeing the many potential security and privacy issues. This will probably continue for the near future seeing that I use many different services to mitigate those and I would like to continue to train this offline brain and not make things too convenient for myself.

For privacy many would like a fully usable off line calendar and I see no logic for this calendar behaviour. Rather than feature-proposal I am inclined to think it a bug. You might consider to Report an issue. If you haven’t used Gitlab you will almost certainly get a login ID problem.
