Caller ID has disappeared, cant see who is calling..!

Have looked through the forum and this seems to have been an issue a few years ago. But now, in the UK, and if you are using the Vodaphone network, there is no caller ID and we can see no setting anywhere in the e-foundation system to change this.
This is causing a lot of problems at our location where we are restricted with which networks are available.
We have tried to get Vodaphone to recognize the problem, their response was “dont use that software and get a google phone”.. sigh..

Is there a reason why there are no setting for this in e-foundation? Any solutions we can try? Only choice we think we have is to use a company that is very expensive, appalling customer services, locks you into a 2 year deal and is notorious for jacking up the prices once you have signed up.. Please save us from this terrible fate..!

Vodafone working ok in the UK here running LTE rather than (dedicated) 4G or above.

Caller ID unknown has been quite troublesome over the years. As far as I understand your carrier has to transmit the ID data in a format suitable for your Dialer / Contacts app to translate to name / number.

Recently, I think one or two cases were fixed by fine tuning APN, associated with carrier upgrade of service perhaps to 4G / 5G.

In a 5G environment it seems IMS registration is important.

IMS Registration

The dial INFO check:

Wifi calling not working, e OS 3.5 on FP6 - #3 by tcecyk

Network preferences

Are also important to optimise on device:

Settings > Network and internet > Internet > your_carrier :gear: > Preferred network type

  • Just to experiment you might try to downgrade the setting.

Perhaps identify your device and version [HOWTO] Give complete /e/OS version info easily for support, answers, comparison etc.

Hi aibd..

Thanks for the response, firstly I should point out we are using 4g only.. There are no other options where we are, that also includes the Network Preferences you suggest and the only options avaliable are 3G or 4G, 3G is disabled here so 4G only.

The IMS Registration link you posted has a lot of info on it, what am I supposed to looking for?

I will call customer services for my current provider this morning and see what they can do, but I am not hopeful as I still do not know why this is happening or why the caller ID setting is not available on e-foundation software, my experience with mobile companies is that they mostly cant be bothered with these sort of problems which will only affect a handful of their customers, but I will still try..
I am curious about the APN setting being a possible solution, any more details about that?

As suggested in the link, that IMS registration is complete and successful. If incomplete you could ask your carrier why that is.

APN Setting and Troubleshooting 2026

What’s changed

Since ~early 2026 users are no longer required to enter values for MCC and MNC as part of APN settings. APN settings will be published by your carrier; be sure to get up to date data.

One would hope that the APN data will match

on your SIM card,
provided on /e/OS install and
your carrier’s latest APN.

APN will likely fail if the SIM card data cannot be updated to exact current values.

Before anything further please turn off all Advanced Privacy and check that the Location service works correctly in one or two apps.

Easiest

In case of difficulties one can ask the carrier to do an APN reset OTA (Over The Air) … alternatively

Manual APN Configuration

Ensure you have a good Wi-Fi connection.

Open Settings :mag: Search APN … or

Navigate to Mobile Networks:

Tap on Wireless & networks or Conections.

Select Mobile networks or Mobile data.

Access APN Settings:

Tap on Access Point Names or APN.

Add New APN:

Tap on the ‘+’ icon or Add button to create a new APN.

Enter APN Details:

Fill in the required fields based on your carrier’s specifications. [1]

Save APN Settings:

Tap on Save to save the new APN.

It is OK if Save takes a while complete … implies the the settings have been checked valid by the carrier.

Return to Settings > APN

Ensure the New setting is active with :radio_button:

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while setting APN, consider the following steps:

Reset to Default: Navigate to APN settings, tap on top right 3 dot menu, and select Reset to default.
Then enable Airplane mode, wait for a few seconds, and then disable it to refresh the network settings.

Or Reset to default then Restart your phone while connected to Wi-Fi to refresh the network settings.

[1] For specific APN settings, refer to your carrier’s documentation.

Thanks aibd, that is some good info which I think will help when I call the carrier..

Checked the IMS reg, all looks good on my phone, volte is activated.. Not sure how relevant this is though, that issue was to do with wifi calling which work fine here..

I will also get the carrier to reset the APN (which I had set up manually) and see if that gets me anywhere, should know in a couple of hours (waiting for customer services to open) and will report back..

Unknown Caller ID has been reported as Gitlab Work items Search

The carrier had me go through some settings, and a talkmobile setting was now available through call app/3 dots top of screen/settings/Calling accounts/talkmobile//additional settiings/Caller Id
..and then check ‘display number’ and reboot phone.
Then they had me go to Settings/System/Reset Options/Reset mobile network settings ..and once selected, then confirmed, rebooted the phone again..

Result - no change at all, still no caller id and all calls are from ‘unknown caller’. Have ordered a sim card from a different carrier (EE) and will see what that yields although we now know the O2 network does have caller id working so will have that as a backup.. Will report back about EE in a couple of days..
