Camera not working in Proton Meet app

I can’t manage to get the camera working in the new Proton Meet app. I’m pretty sure all the permissions are set properly. The camera works OK when I try Proton Meet in a browser.

Has anyone got the camera working in the app?

The app does not require a Proton account to use it. I’ve tried both being logged into my account and not, with the same result.

Have you granted the app access to your camera?

Yes, and App Permissions for Proton Meet in Settings shows the time that the camera was last accessed. If the app permission for camera is not granted the app shows a warning when trying to turn the camera on.

The blue dot in the status bar indicating camera access also shows when turning the camera on. Whereas on the website the picture appears instantly when turning on the camera, that space remains blank in the app.

I’m hoping that someone may have tried out the app so I can see if it’s just me or possibly a wider problem.

I have tried the app (version 1.0.1) and the camera is working perfectly.

Thanks, that’s great and good to know that it’s working under /e/os.

I’m using the same version of the app. I suppose differences between phone model & /e/os build could still be a factor.

I’ll have to have another good look through everything to see if I can pin down the cause.

Any other suggestions appreciated!

I am sure you are aware Settings > Apps > App Info > Permissions can be useful for a quick check of “Not allowed” … PS @dave in case a chain of things prevents the job happening … can be worth to check that “every permission requested” there is allowed.

Yes, thanks. It’s set to ‘Allowed’.

In Settings > Privacy > Privacy dashboard > Camera usage I can also see the history of all the times Proton Meet used the camera, but no picture showed in the app any of those times.

I’ve tried clearing cache and storage and setting up afresh, but still no change.

Edit: Also in the app, when turning the camera on either before creating a call or once a call is started, pulling down from the top of the phone screen and clicking on the blue camera icon shows the message ‘Being used by Proton Meet’.

@aibd two permissions hadn’t been requested: Calendar and Nearby Devices. I tried allowing both of these so that all permissions listed were set to ‘Allowed’ but still no picture. Notifications is set to allow all.

On further investigation it seems that the camera is working, but that despite this no images are being displayed in the mobile app.

Having additionally installed the Proton Meet app on my (Windows) laptop I started a call between phone & laptop.

With cameras turned on in both devices no images appear in the app on my phone. On my laptop, however, images from both laptop and phone are shown.

With the report above that the app is working as expected on a FP4, does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this lack of image display on my FP3?

Edit: The two toggles in the app settings for ‘Hide self view’ and ‘Turn off incoming video’ are both off, although I’ve also tried switching them.
