Can I install e/OS A14 over Fairphone stock A15 on Fairphone 4

So I ran the web installer. All seem to go fine but at the end I got stuck in the bootloader loop. This though SPL stock was jan 5 and e/OS SPL feb 6.
I now reinstalled stock A15 so everything is working fine.
Is it worth to retry or is e/OS A14 over FP A15 just not possible? (And if so why doesn’t the web installer check this??)

The install script is expected to change Android version.

If you run the script by the manual instructions, then if there was any error it is expected to show on your terminal. eosinstaller has no documented method for the user to read a log file of what went wrong.

Maybe I am dense but do you mean yes it should be possible and probably something else went wrong?
" has no documented method" does that include that the web installer gives all good when in fact their was some error?

I hope you understand I was a bit spooked by the bootloader loop. And as such I want to avoid trying again: when 1/A14 over A15 is impossible or 2/if the web installer did not throw in error then the manual install will not either → giving me the bootloader loop also.

I understand. I have been thoroughly spooked by all the eosinstaller installer threads I have read. I have not used the installer so I do not know what might happen as it comes to an end nor what might be the cause of your bootloop. The script when run in a terminal is expected to leave a full trace of what happens. The script however includes many “flash or abort” lines. Thus the script can fail silently … except looking at the terminal trace one can usually recognise if an abort situation happened. Speculating … an abort where some partitions got missed would lead to a bootloop. A better cable and examination of the full USB chain can help avoid such abort.

The install script is expected to change Android version, by which I mean the manual install script.

So you mean, yes it is possible?
Yet the manual installation page says :"It is important that you know that downgrading Smartphones on OS versions greater than the /e/OS OS version you plan to install, can cause instability or at worst brick some devices. " … I don’t really know what to think of this.

I see there is this general advice and it is true of most supported devices.

/e/ uses a fully fastboot script for Fairphones so change of Android version is expected ok. You could see if Fairphone pages tell you of anything more on the subject.
