I have an older [username@e.email@e.email@e.email account for my murena account

After searching this forum, I cannot find a thread that relates enough to my issue, so I’m starting this one. I have two phones running /e/os: a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and a refurbished google Pixle 5 that I purchased from Murena about a year ago. This week, I upgraded both of these phones to the latest OTA version of (3.3) without any issues and I was looking forward to 3.3 finally fixing the 2FA authentication problem on my two phones where turning on 2FA on my murena account and then adding the app password to the “Accounts” settings on my phone would mess up the password for the email account. After I read the forum post found at Cloud/mail doesn't work with TOTP (FP3+, EOS 3.01) - #6 by r2afb2om , I decided that I would authenticate my phones by removing my murena accounts from my phones, and then re-add them. On my Samsung phone, /e/os authenticated without issue after I tapped the notification for authenticating using the new method. The authentication tool accepted my username, password, & TOTP and then it closed to show me in the “Accounts” settings of that phone that the new account was added to the phone.

Having success on my Samsung phone, I then followed the same procedure on my Pixel phone, but, unfortunately, after I removed my murena account from the Pixel phone, there was no notification for authentication for me to tap on, and then when I tried to add murena account in the phone’s “Accounts” settings, the authentication tool asks for my email address and after I tap the blue “Signin” button, then a new screen is displayed which asks for my email address and password, and then on the next screen, (see screenshot)

it asks for the code from my 2FA, which I put in and then tap the “Login” button.

When that button us tapped, the the app attempts to load the next screen and I can see the status bar up near the URL box move for about ½ a second, and then the status bar disappears and the same screen is displayed. The tool did not accept the TOTP. At this point, I tapped the “Use backup code” link which begins the process over again, but the second time, when the tool asks for the 2FA code, it looks different and the tool actually DOES accept the 2FA code and then loads the murena.io web interface. But I do not know what to do at this point because when I got to murena web interface on my Samsung phone, the tool closed and then I saw in the “Accounts” settings of my Samsung phone that the muerna account was added, however, the murena account is NOT added to the “Accounts” settings of my Pixel phone; the murena web interface just sets there.

I even tried adding the murena account by entering a backup code, but with the same results. I also rebooted my Pixel phone, but that did not help.

Will you please help me get my murena account onto my Pixel phone?

Thank you.

Hello @tubaclarinet, Welcome to the /e/ users forum.

What if you use your username@murena.io ?

Thank you @piero for welcoming me, and thak you for the idea. I will try it.

Thank you @piero , I tried adding my accounto to my Pixel phone using username@murena.io and when I did so, the authentication tool displayed an error message which said, “Invalid username or password” even though I used my password correctly. Thank you anyways. Any other ideas?

Happy New Year Everyone! I’m just following up on my original post above to see if any of you can help me since my Pixel 5 is my daily driver. Thank you.

Hello,

I thought that I would attach another screenshot or two that relate to this case. The following screenshot is of the screen that the “Add a new account” tool on my phone displayed when I tapped the “Use backup code” link (read original post for details):

And the screenshot below was the screen that displayed right after the screenshot above (please notice that the 2FA screen below is different than the previous 2FA screen):

That TOTP screen DOES accept my 2FA code, but, of course, after the “Add a new account” tool loads my murena.io cloud storage interface, it just stays open and fails to add the account to my Pixel 5 phone. I am still unable to add my account to my Pixel 5. The “Add a new account” authentication tool authenticates my account, but some how, the tool fails to send the account to the “Add Account” settings on my phone.

Hello Everyone, I was thinking more about the issue my phone is encountering & the main problem is that after I open /e/os’s “Add bew account” tool and authenticate my credentials with OpenID Connect, and it displays my murena.io Workspace, the tool just doesn’t take the next step which is to tell my phone, “Okay, this account, which was just accesed with OpenID Connect, is the account that you should add to this phone.” I hope this all makes sense.

An idea I had: is there a way to invoke the notification on my phone which informs uses who just installed /e/os version 3.3 that they can now authenticate with the OpenID Connect authentication tool? Maybe if I invoke that notification, the workflow will then take that missing step.
