Can't synchronize contacts (nor agenda)

Hi,

I bought a brand-new Fairphone 6 with /e/OS pre-installed in order to replace my old Android phone. The first thing I need is to synchronize my contacts with my Nextcloud provider. On an Android device, I would install DAVx5, configure my account and then tell the contact app to use that account. On my new phone, I could create such an account. When I go to Paramètres/Comptes »(parameters/accounts), I find it under a section named “Comptes pour Propriétaire” (litteraly: “account for owner”, which does not make sense to me):

When I open the Contacts app, as expected it tells “Votre liste de contacts est vide” (your contact list is empty”), and suggest me “Ajouter un compte” (add an account) or “Importer” (import):

I don’t want to import my contacts. I want to sync them, so I guess adding an account is the way to go. Let’s do it: I am taken to something which looks like the previous “Comptes” (accounts) configuration page under “Paramètres” (parameters). But my WedDAV account does not appear any longer:

BTW, here is how I see the caldav account I configured, when I select it from parameters/accounts:

When I click on my account (myname@zaclys.net), I get this:

Is it supposed to be empty? I get no error message when I click on either of the two buttons on the bottom right.

Did I miss anything?

The least I can say is that I feel very frustrated with this experience (the first thing I want to do does not work out of the box, there is no clear error message, I could not find any manual telling what to do, and I spent about 2 hours trying then reporting it). How should I report it?

(I also tried to synchronize my agenda too, with similar results)

Yours

I don’t think you need Davx5. Just add your account details via the built in accounts feature. I did this on my Oneplus Nord for an account on my Radicale server and it worked correctly.

Hi,

Last year, when I configured my Murena FP6 to use my old self hosted Nextcloud Agenda and Contacts, I had to install Davx5 because I did not achieve this task without it.

When I defined the Nextcloud provider in Davx5, I used the first option “Connection with an URL and a user name” (Connexion avec une URL et un utilisateur). I didn’t use a connection with Nextcloud because my Nextcloud system is too old.

Synchronisation must be activated at Davx5 level for each Agenda and Contact.

If I remember rightly, the Davx5 accounts were available directly on the system accounts list. I didn’t have to set synchronisation at this level. Remark: in the accounts list, Davx5 accounts are shown as not synchronised. However, it is managed by Davx5.

You should also parameter the Contact App to use Davx5 account.

This is probably quite a difficult starting pont as Murena sort of expects you to set up the “Account for owner” first, unless ofc you decide not to use murenacloud (which is fine too).

Maybe some ideas from

Do you want be Murenacloud free? Then further ideas could be more specific.

Indeed @eOSPC92! I installed DAVx5 and launched it. I selected “Nextcloud” as the account type and gave the URL for the nextcloud server hosting my contacts and calendar (cncloud.zaclys.com). I had to enter my id and password (I actually generated an app password on my laptop, which I gave to my phone). Not only DAVx5 detected my calendar and contacts but the contact and calendar app instantly got my contacts and calendar (of course, I first told DAVx5 which calendars and contact list I wanted to synchronize).
Thanks a lot!

@Vaughan and @aibd thanks for your help too. @Vaughan: maybe I was not clear, but indeed, I tried to add my account details via the built in accounts feature first, and it did not work. @aibd maybe that’s because I did not create any Murena account. But, as much as possible, I would like to avoid to create one (I already have too many email addresses, I already have a Nextcloud account elsewhere and I don’t need more).
