I would like to install the banking app for ANZ Australia. Irritatingly, ANZ refuses to make their app available on app stores outside Australia. I’m coming from an iPhone, and it’s been a major pain. To upgrade the app (close security holes) I have to wait until I make my annual trip to Australia, buy a SIM card, change to an Australian Apple ID, wait a week for Apple to accept the new phone number, and finally upgrade. So I was hoping my Murena FP6 would solve that.
I’ve also been using a Furilabs FLX1s, a Linux phone with a custom Android environment. It allows me to select a country before using an anonymous account on the Google Store. Choosing “Australia” allowed me to install the app. So I know it can work.
On Murena, I tried changing my language from “English (United Kingdom)” to “English (Australia)”, then restarted the App Lounge. This doesn’t show any search results for “anz banking app”.
I tried changing “geolocation” under “Advanced Privacy”, and chose a specific location in Australia. Same result.
I tried selecting “My internet activity must appear from” - “Australia”. This produced the same result. However, I think this setting only applies if you use “Hide my real IP address”, which uses Tor. Unsurprisingly, this is too slow for the app lounge to work: it times out trying to load the front page.
Does anyone know an effective way to install apps from a different country? I might be able to set up a VPN through Australia. That’s a bit of a faff, I’d prefer not to bother unless I’m sure it’ll work.
