Complete beginner trying to install e/os on pixel 5 with android 14

**Hi there,
I am sorry in advance if this is a really boring question for most of you. I am a complete beginner in anything to do with informatics so this will probably be very basic.

A friend used to install e/os for me but now I moved away and have to do it on my own. I got a google pixel 5 and was hoping to be able to use the easy installer, but there is an error message coming up each time I try, it says:

Error on step: device-detection
etc etc

It is always after some downloading that this suddenly happens (currently stuck on pixel-5-rom.zip 72/100)

After some reading here I realise that it might be a problem that my refurbed pixel came with android 14 on it and that the easy installer might only work for android 13. Is this what might lead to this error?

What would be my best option (given that I understand literally nothing and it will take me considerable time to figure out anything): trying to put my phone on android 13, or learning how to install e/os manually (ideally without destroying my phone in the process due to some ignorance that I was ignorant about)?

Before following these instructions please ensure that the device is on the latest Android 14 firmware.

What OS is on your computer, if Windows the most frequent issue is that Windows has not installed a full driver set (ok for ordinary use but does not detect the phone in Fastboot mode) resulting in

Error on step: device-detection
