Do I need to decrypt my /e/OS phone in order to flash another ROM?

Hi!

I’m using /e/OS 1.8.1-20230207257879-whyred on my Redmi Note 5. Since there is no stable version of eOS released for 7 months on my device, I want to change my ROM for a more maintained one.

Yet, I’ve encrypted my device data and I can’t decrypt it easily on the settings.

Do I need to decrypt my phone before changing custom recovery and flash my new rom? I don’t care about the data on the phone since I’ve already backed it up.

If I need to decrypt it, how could I do?

Thank you in advance,

Greg

Hi @GregRoy welcome to the forum.

It looks like you missed the Android version upgrade to Android 11 (R). The ROMs are https://images.ecloud.global/dev/whyred/.

There is an upgrade page for your device https://doc.e.foundation/devices/whyred/upgrade.

No, I really don’t think so; format data will destroy the data whether encrypted or not.
