Dual Messenger on /e/ Q / Android 10? Signal for SMS?

I see some older posts where users are having problems sending SMS from Signal. I’m not able to do this.

I’m not even able to access my phone contacts from Signal. I dug around in the phone settings and don’t see a way to enable this, nor do I see an option for dual messaging.

How is this done?

Whether I should be using Signal (and not Langis) is another issue. I’m definitely open to read your suggestions but I’m trying not to go down another rabbit hole of what is truly “best”.

In my case using Signal for both encrypted messaging and SMS/MMS was never a problem, also with the contacts I have on my device. It did work from the first day on. I installed Signal from Aurora. It also survived several OS updates now. I set Signal as my standard SMS app.
