I downloaded music from my Proton Drive app directly to my SD card (Fairphone 6, /e/OS 4.0, SanDisk 256GB Ultra microSDXC). Prior to downloading the files from my Proton Drive app, nothing showed in my music library. Now that I’ve downloaded the music to my SD card, some albums show duplicate listings of songs. (It’s be some albums, not all albums; of those albums affected, all the songs duplicated the same number of times. Some albums have 3 duplicates, some have 2 duplicates.)
They’re not synced to my Murena workspace files (made sure photos & videos are not synced), when I go into the files for the SD card, there’s only one file per song. I’m not sure how the Music app is showing duplicates. When I play an album that has duplicates, the duplicate plays like it’s any other track. (So: track 1, track 1, track 2, track 2, and so on.)
Not sure if this is a bug or if I did something wrong. Thanks!
Try to clear it’s cache and if this doesn’t help clear the entire app data in the global Settings.
But generally I would not count on that stock app a lot. It shows meta data only, not files. And to be clear: it shows the internal copies of these meta data from your files stored in an internal database - double data containment per design. And meta data are never in order and you also never get them in any order. Every album you add brings again a new kind of disorder, despite the fact that many downloaded files do not even have proper meta data (in this case the file name is the only data …)
To solve that mess there’s only one solution: use a music player app which is definitely file based. Because the files are something you can guarantee to be in an order (using proper file names and nested folder structures). FoldPlay, foobar2000, vlc, SicMu, Lisna.
Thank you! I try to manage my metadata so things were in order already, just the duplicate issue. This all makes sense, I appreciate the explanation! I’ll check out your recommendations, thank you so so much! Edit: OMG is that the VLC listed in the suggestions? Man, switching from iPhone to Android has been a (fun) struggle and I’m loving these pleasant surprises like being able to use VLC, yesss!!! Thank you!!
