/e/os Installation on Nothing Phone 1 takes ages

Hey guys,

I‘m currently trying to install /e/os on a CMF Nothing Phone 1 using the /e/os web installer.

Everything works fine until the point where the phone is unlocked in fastboot mode via the volume up button. It works (for some reason I always have to unlock twice) but after that, the installation runs forever without any progress.

Yesterday I tried two times, every time it would install at above mentioned point for around 5 hours. Then I cancelled it both times. I added a screenshot of the step in the installer where it sticks for ages every time. Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem?

My specs:

Android 15 on phone

Linux Mint on installation PC

USB 3.0 (i suppose, it’s an old second hand laptop from 2015). Would USB 2.0 make a big difference?

USB Cable works fine and allows file transfer

My laptop locks while installing but doesn’t go into standby mode

edit: Screenshot attached

On a 2015 PC it might depend how this was “built in”. The USB port soldered to the motherboard can give the best chances.

My opinion, I would not spend too much time troubleshooting the relatively new eosinstaller (<- check a few threads with problems) and move on to the manual or Command Line instructions. On this phone the work is done by a script and not too hard.

There is no documented way to get better feedback or a log from the installer.

Thanks for the advice. Instead of researching my laptop hardware details or further troubleshoot the installer I decided to go for the manual installation and it worked fine.

Let the /e/os era begin!
