/e/OS installer for pixel 8 - Error when trying to connect to the device

Hi,

I’ve just got a pixel 8, and wanted to instal /e/OS (my computer is under Linux Ubuntu). I followed the steps of the e/OS installer but when it comes to connecting the device, I have this error message :

Error on step: device-detection

Cannot execute command connect adb
The device is not connected Failed to connect: Cannot connect ADB Cannot read properties of undefined (reading ‘deserial’)
Proposal: Check connection and that no other program is using the phone and retry.

I have tried again several times, doing the different steps over and over, unplugged and plugged again, turned the phone off and on again but still the same error. The cable is OK, i could transfer a file from the computer to the phone. The phone is reconditionned, I have not used it yet, so i have not put sim card yet, not connected it to internet yet.

In the first step of the installer it is written : Before proceeding with the installation, check if the latest Android firmware is available for your device. And yes, my phone is under android 16, the latest android version. However, in the /e/OS smartphone selector, /e/OS version for pixel 8 is “A15”. Does that means that it works for android 15 only ? What are my options then ? Can we choose to instal an other version of android on our smartphone ? Or how long does it take usually for a /e/OS to upgrade to the newest version of android ?

Or is it simply something else ? and then what can I can do to “fix” the error ?

I’m sorry I’m not really a computer guy and I thought that with the e/OS installer it would be easy…

Thank you for your help.

Benoit

Hello @benoitj, Welcome to the /e/ users forum.

Since 2025 May, you cannot anymore downgrade GoogleOS version of your pixel 8,
so downgrade from an Android 16 based one to an android 15 based one

awaiting you could install LineageOS
the following guide may help you to install not only /e/, but any alternative android OS

Hi @piero

Thank you very much for this quick answer.

Upgrade to A16 should not be too long then. And meanwhile, I’ll have a look to the solution you propose with LineageOS, and if it doesn’t seem too complicated, I’ll try. Otherwise I’ll wait

Thank you

always treat /e/ advertisements with caution…

Ok thanks for the advise :+1:
