/e/ Photography

The best camera phone i`ve, seen was the Nokia Lumia 925 and above tho sadly its a windows phone. It took amazing pictures and video even in low light thanks to its Carl Zeiss optics . Nokia are doing android now so maybe there hope and /e/ will support it.

This website lists the best camera phones for low light photography (here)

The new Nokia phones do have Carl Zeiss but don’t match to their predecessors because they haven’t been able to use the camera software that they had in Lumia because Microsoft owns that.

I used one of the new Nokia’s for a little while before I I was completely released from the Goolag. :joy: The Nokia 8 Sirocco and yeah it had the dual lens Carl Zeiss optics but the camera when using the native camera app was terrible! It was significantly better when I installed a GCAM port, but still miles from an actual pixel phone. Definitely crippled by software… And its either really difficult or not possible at all to unlock android Nokia bootloaders at this stage so I cant see them getting /e/ for a while.

the list of reviews from dxo is also a rather reliable source of information:
https://www.dxomark.com/category/mobile-reviews/

but the results are always related to the original firmware and software refinements done by this devices. you shouldn’t expect similar satisfaying results under /e/ right now.

Thank you for that link.
As devices with e Elli posted a nice list above: “Essential Phone, Pixel XL 2, LG G5, OnePlus 5 & 5T, Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S9 & S9+, Xiaomi Mi 6, Mix 2 & 2s & Poco F1”.
I only know two of these models, cannot comment on quality differences with e though or which one might be winner. I’d guess for normal everyday use all of them are good.

Did someone maybe test a few of those models and can tell more about the device with the best photography experience on /e/?

Is it maybe the Samsung S9 or an other phone?

i did some similar stuff some time ago

Hi i found a very intresting camera phone from a Coatian company called NOA, they claim this phone can take 80Megapixel pictures, but to me it makes little sense as it says it used the two inbuilt 16MP cameras to produce with 1 oversampled 80MP picture, but it must be on a tripod to work here is the sample video https://yewtu.be/watch?v=WDC-tlHEmBE, (if the link doesnt load the youtube link is here )

Their main promo page is https://noa-mobile.eu/element/n7 and seems really affordable € 174,57. Even tho it is android i dont really care to use it as a phone but the camera is very intresting. I know a few of you may say why even bother just get a proper camera, however… most of the cameras available to buy are just 20megapixels, a 50MP camera can cost thousands of pounds/euros, which makes this somewhat appealing.

My current camera is a 2014 Noka Lumia 1020 which can do 38 Megapixels which takes amazing pictures, even the new 2020 iphone 11 only does 16 megapixels which is shameful that a 5 year olf Nokia Lumia outshines alot of phones and dedicated cameras!!!

I was wondering if anyone had heard of this company i hear they are rather large in some parts of europe, but cant really find a dedicated review for the camera, so could be not very good. Love to hear your thoughts. perhaps someone may make an /e/os ROM for it but then i imagine the cameras software is what makes this work.

I just came across a review for the camera phone of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro which has a 108 Megapixel camera, it still an expensive phone like many other phones, however is way more affordable than a proper camera; of which a 100 Megapixels costs a small fortune.

here`s the review https://www.dxomark.com/xiaomi-mi-10-pro-camera-review/.
