I have just read the newsletter on the subject of “eurostack”. What a joke!!! Should I swap the American censorship for that of the EU? Now that America has relaxed a few rules, the EU wants to kill off all freedom of expression? What was that about the devil and Belzebub? I’d rather stick with a purely Swiss solution (proton).
What do you mean by “EU wants to kill off all freedom of expression”
I thought Eurostack is about spending 300 billion euros in ten years to build up european alternatives in digital infrastructure - especially for industrial purposes…
did I miss something?
Building up an independent infrastructure is an ambitious goal and I don’t want to criticize this at all.
The only thing that bothers me is that we want to turn our backs on America because we are afraid of influence or control.
But what else does the EU want?
Good - just to be clear: DSA is not part of Eurostack. As already mentioned, Eurostack is about European solutions in the digital infrastructure - ultimately about making Europe more independent from China, the USA, etc. DSA is about control and legal certainty for social networks.
In my humble opinion, there will never be 100% satisfaction for everyone on the latter topic. The radical political fringes in particular will always say that the state only wants to suppress our opinions. Which I still find a difficult argument, because it always sounds like: “My opinion is the only true one, there can be no other opinion. I don’t want to discuss that - WHAT? I’m being criticized for that? Hey: Where is the freedom of opinion???”
And of course: the EU won’t get everything right. Just as no state in the world will do everything right. But then we citizens can defend ourselves. In court - it takes a long time and doesn’t always end well. But in my opinion, it’s 1000 times better than always doing what a Trump, a Putin or the Chinese Communist Party says.
And we can support projects like e/OS, linux or so many other open source software - to keep our digital world wild & free…
