Fairphone 3+ says no mobile internet but the browser works

Sometimes mobile internet just works, but quite often there will be an exclamation mark over the triangle in the top corner of the screen that represents phone network. When this exclamation mark is present but it says 4G next to the triangle, there is an odd situation where the /e/OS inbuilt browser works fine but all other apps (including firefox) say “no internet connection”.

I have read that problems like this may be fixable by changing the APN settings but nothing has worked yet and different websites recommend different APN settings for vodafone. if anyone knows what apn settings i should be using maybe that would help?

I switched the SIM card from my old iphone to this fairphone 3+. I’m using vodafone in the UK on a pay-as-you-go bundle.

APN settings changed format ~January 2026 so search Vodafone pages for the settings for your PAYG plan. I didn’t find a page in a quick search so you could phone them and ask for an OTA “APN reset”.

You might first try

Settings :magnifying_glass_tilted_left: Search: APN

tap on top right 3 three dots menu > Reset to default.

I’ve already tried that unfortunately

may i ask what OTA stands for?

OTA is Over The Air.

The method usually involves a SMS text plus the APN details sent direct to “System APN”.

Does you APN view include as:

It will be important to have an exact match with your plan. For instance the Selected Vodafone Pre Pay is not interchangeable with Vodafone Pre Pay MMS.

If not an APN issue it might be worth checking

Settings > Apps > All apps > problem_app > Mobile data usage … within are some little used toggles one of which may have been turned off (??).

Perhaps also

Settings :magnifying_glass_tilted_left: Search: Data saver.
