Fairphone 4 /e/OS 2.8 & 2.9 - OTA Update (-grade)? - Security Patches

Hi there,

I have 2 Fairphone 4 at home. First one is on /e/OS 2.9-A14 (20250321478214-official). The other one is on /e/OS 2.8-A14 (20250219469961-official). Maybe someone can answer some questions to me.

1. Whats the difference between these builds (2.8 and 2.9)? I cant find info here.
2. Is an OTA Update (-grade) 2.8 to 2.9 possible? I dont want to do a clean installation.
3. When will there the next security patch on any of these builds? More than 3 month is faaaar to long for security patches!

2. Yes, go to Settings → System Updates → refresh or check the preferences for auto update check. OTA Upgrade will be offered the same way (for Official builds). Take a look at the weekly development updates for this.
3. Next build is announced as /e/OS 3.0, i guess this will include security patch from May 2025.

Ok. 2.8 → 2.9 is just an update (no upgrade) and should show up at Settings → System Updates? It didnt. Thats why I asked. Hm. I will check.

Sometimes you need to touch the refresh button more than 4 times to force it.

As long as you don’t see a15 then it is a ‘monthly’ update with patches, fixes and features.
