I just bought a Fairphone 6. I have been deep in the apple ecosystem more or less from the start. Although now, I have bought a Fairphone 6 with e/os to join a more fair and privacy oriented ecosystem.
However, I have just booted my Fairphone 6, coming standard with e/os, and the app lounge does not work. The app lounge home hangs loading. If I go to categories and go in to different categories, some work and some typical apps might show up but not all, while for others categories like android auto, it says âerror occurred while loading appsâ, âcollection is empty. Status: unknownâ. Additionally if i search some apps show up but typical ones donât, if I search for say revolut, youtube, or apple music, nothing comes up.
I have updated my e/os to the latest version. I have checked the app lounge is the latest version. I have restarted my phone and the app several times, and I have fiddled with settings but nothing fixes the issue.
How can my app lounge be fixed so I can download my typical day to day apps. Otherwise, if i cannot resolve this issue, I fear I would have to return to my old phone.
Additionally, my default browser engine, murena search powered by quant, doesnât work. I have swapped this search engine for duck duck go, my typical browser engine, but i wanted to report the issue.
Open the App Store, then open Setting and go to Apps, clear the cache and data in the App Store. Re-open the App Store then sign in in anonymous mode see if you can download an app.
The reason the App Store has issues is it is the play store in anonymous mode and google does itâs best to block this feature.
There is also the Aurora Store, you get that from the F-Droid store. Because of the App Store issue, most experienced eOS users also install F-Droid and Aurora store. This is the best work around and you can get all app anytime you need.
Unfortunately this didnât help much with the app lounge. I have tried this, I have tried to use a dummy google account and it doesnât resolve the issue.
I got f drive and aurora store there, they have a good few apps I need but not revolut or all the other apps i need.
Are you trying to say i cant access the app lounge even using a google account? That with e/os they simply try to discourage degoogled OSs.
Sorry? Whats with your attitude. Iâm thankful for their help, but it didnât resolve my issue. Would you have liked me to not have responded accurately with how the advice faired.
I clearly demonstrated that I took all the previous commenterâs points on board and attempted to resolve my issue.
I have searched through the community and I couldnât find a resolution to my problem. Thatâs why I began a thread on this issue.
Iâm just trying to find out how I can use this OS appropriately in my daily life. And I am very obviously new here. Are you trying to make the community hostile to new people and to people trying to resolve their issues? Cause I certainly donât feel very welcome with my first user issue thread being chastised.
If you are trying to suggest this has been asked elsewhere and I havenât found it, Iâm sure the polite thing to do would be to share links to those threads. Rather than impolitely suggesting I didnât search through the community, in an obviously demeaning manner.
Yes!! Thatâs it. #8738 seems to be a very similar issue, but I think its somewhat different perhaps because they seem to suggest that when logged on they can see apps and they wont download whereas even if logged on to a google account I cannot see the apps. I cannot see these apps on App Lounge in any case, they simply donât show up in search, or using categories or the home page. Also, I have not gotten the âGoogle sign in failed! Due to a network error, App Lounge was not able to get Google sign-in data.â And for whatever reason the apps that donât show up for me do show up for this OP, for example I cannot see any of the apps they say load fine, except for Duolingo, but I can see Microsoft teams which they cannot. #8738 does say its an intermittent issue so perhaps in a week this will work for a time? It is at least good to know its a known issue and a fairly recent one.
I tried as you suggested to turn off all privacy features and use the app store, I tried with a dummy google account and using anonymous. I also tried the method in the #8738 thread. These still unfortunately didnât work.
The fact that @Jets sees Revolut in Aurora store and I donât makes me think this is also happening in the aurora store too.
However, I did find some measure of success though, I searched online with my phone to find if I can download common apps and another app store came up that seems more useful APKPure seems to have a lot of the apps I need. Of my typical everyday apps on Aurora and F-Droid I could only find whatsapp, whereas on APKPure it even has my necessary regional/local apps like âLeap Top-upâ which is an app for Irish public transport travel cards, the leap card.
Its a good guess but I canât imagine so because I canât view many typical apps in the search feature or in the home menu. Also, in App Lounge>settings>show applications, if I deselect common apps and leave on open source apps and show PWAs this works fine, the home menu displays correctly and categories works perfectly. Although some âcommonâ apps are searchable but most arenât from what it seems
@mihi Oh thatâs good to know. I was able to download the app off APKPure but it says it doesnât work, Iâm glad youâve said this. Can I ask how do you know it should be fixed for official?
@Jets Yea it is a money app, you know I canât actually find it on the Aurora store unfortunately.
The best way to get the Aurora Store is go to f-droid.org and download the f-droid apk right from their website. Install it on phone, grant the necessary permissions. Open it let it update then search for the Aurora Store, download APK and install. The phone will ask you to allow from that source, you must allow the source. Then get Aurora from the f-droid store, repeat install and permissions.
@Caolin applounge and aurora use device profiles. Can you look at microG settings (settings->system) what device profile you offer, native, spoofed etc? Aurora can set it in-App.
The way both store apps work is they use an anonymous auth token pool that is dynamic. But as you said, with using an exclusive G account that parameter should play no role.
dear @Caolin @Jets provided excellent advice. App Lounge occasionally experiences issues, particularly with Google applications. While your first instinct might be to clear the cache and data from App Lounge, this may not be sufficient to resolve the problem.
The recommended solution is to install Aurora Store through F-Droid, then use Aurora to update Google LLC and other Google-related applications. After completing these updates, App Lounge should function properly again.
Hi @dominix, itâs funny you mention this. Because all day i have been looking at the updates page in aurora, where it has âgoogle play servicesâ to be updated. I tried to work around it, try and find another solution, and not update it. But I couldnt find one so the last 30 mins I tried updating it and unfortunately this is having an error when I try. It says: âINSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE: Existing package com.google.android.gms signatures do not match newer version; ignoring!â
I tried to uninstall google play services to then re-install it and then another error came up saying: âUninstalling micro g services unsuccessfulâ.
The f-droid.org website was down for a while so only there did I download f-droid from their official website and re-install it, then re-installed aurora through f-droid, however same results unfortunately.
It sounds like you have done this yourself, do you have any experience with this issue perhaps?
You are trying the impossible. You canât update Google Play Services. If you would have searched on this forum for 2 min you would have found very quickly that you just canât. As I pointed out in my post before, Aurora is not the solution. It is a way but one needs to know how to use it properly.
