Good morning. I’ve had my Fairphone 6 for two weeks now. Below is a list of bugs I’ve encountered, some of which are quite annoying/important.
The “unknown caller” bug persists. The first day I used the phone, I couldn’t understand why the names of the people calling me weren’t showing up, even though I had their numbers saved in my contacts. I looked in the forums and found a temporary fix, but it’s unbelievable that this bug has existed for five years and no one has fixed it ( All calls come up as an Unknown caller - even when they are in my contacts list! ).
My phone automatically goes into vibrate mode. It does this several times a day, and it’s very annoying. I never know if I’m going to miss a call because of it.
The phone’s light sensor isn’t working properly. The first problem is that it fluctuates wildly, causing the screen brightness to change drastically even if you’re not moving the phone. And often it miscalculates the intensity, making the screen too dark. I have to constantly adjust the brightness.
The alarm clock sometimes doesn’t work some reason. Today I missed an hour of work because it simply decided not to ring, even though it had a good battery and everything seemed normal.
The camera software doesn’t use the camera correctly. If I download a different camera app, I can take good photos. But with the official camera app, the quality is very poor, especially the selfie camera.
If I find more bugs, I’ll try to keep this post updated.
I tried to share my experience on the GitLab you mentioned, but unfortunately, it won’t let me log in or register. For some reason, it’s detecting my Gmail address as spam or something similar:
So I’ll give more information about my situation, and if you’d like, you can add the link to this post to the GitLab issue.
I bought a Fairphone 6 with the original Android version. I switched to e/OS the same day it arrived, and from the first minute, I experienced the “unknown caller” problem (and all the others I’ve mentioned). I tried formatting the phone. I also tried reinstalling the original Android with the bootloader locked, then unlocking the bootloader and reinstalling e/OS, but everything remained the same. I’m in Spain, and my provider is Lowi (Vodafone).
Yeah, I think this is probably the poor placement of the volume keys. It would be good if there were a software fix that would require double pressing the volume keys to activate them OR design a case with a lip around the volume keys so that it’s harder to fat finger them. At any rate, it’s defintely an annoyance
Same here. Is it known if this is a hardware or a software problem?
Also, does anyone know if there is a quick access tool, like swiping part of the screen or such to change the brightness? That would make the problem much less annoying.
Just for the record: I haven’t encountered any of the issues mentioned in this thread on my Fairphone 6, apart from occasional brightness quirks — and those are so minor that I probably won’t even bother to try the (Thanks, @sakuwa!) Auto Light fix. The unknown caller bug seems to be a carrier/provider problem rather than a software issue.
