Hi, I have a new murena Fairphone 6 with /e/OS 3.1.4 (latest official).
I have an SD card, and I’m using an app, Resilio Sync, to deploy/sync data onto the SD card. After a new minutes it appears this app is capable of breaking the wifi driver. The phone is left in a state where the wifi is completely broken until reboot. Unable to change/join any network.
The app works fine and reliably with a usb-c ethernet adapter.
I have the same issue, but the phone just hangs and crashes afterwards. First WiFi stops working and i cannot connect to any SSID. Then the whole phone freezes and i have to force reboot it. I just received the Fairphone 6 with /e/os yesterday and it is up to date. I might just return it if these major bugs persist.
That shouldn’t make much of a difference. Installing the OS is almost only scripted. And I would say Murena uses the same way (I assume it).
I am using the community build on FP6 and I don’t have such issues. Worth a try before returning could be to put it back to factory settings. You have to backup data anyway before giving it back
A similar thing started happening to my Fairphone 6 using Android (at some point no SSIDs can even be found, until restarted), so I would not be surprised if this is a bug in a piece of code shared by /e/OS and Android. Firmware issue perhaps?
I suppose it COULD be a recurring hardware issue, but it started happening after an update from Fairphone, so that’s why I’m guessing it’s software/firmware based.
So, today I am unable to reproduce this problem. It was very persistent before, but now apparently has vanished. AFAIK I haven’t updated /e/OS. Still on 3.14 9/15 build.
I’ve been using my Fairphone 6 since August, I purchased it with /e/ OS installed.
Currently, I’m on /e/ OS 3.2.
I have not yet seen a clear pattern behind the problem. WiFi disconnects and the phone cannot see any SSID until after a reboot.
Sometimes, it freezes shortly after the disconnect and I have to press the power button for a long time for it to restart.
I’m not sure if this is related to the issue, but I have replaced my router with a new model that supports WiFi 6 a bit more than a month ago. It might line up with that, but I’m not 100% sure and need to test it further.
Could it be possible that the firmware has trouble with WiFi 6?
Two updates from me: I found out why my subsequent test worked: I signed up for cellular data, and that works great. The original issue persists when disabling mobile data.
Also, my original testing on this was all WiFi 5 802.11ac class hardware.
I haven’t tested yet on /e/OS 3.2 yet, but will try to do so this week.
Hello, FP6, phone arrived with e/OS installed. On 3.2. In UK, on Wifi6 - it loses wifi connection overnight. Sometimes after I’ve left the house and come back (like taking dog out for a walk) it doesn’t reconnect to wifi. I’m discovering this appears to be a wider issue, so not sure it’s e/OS related but figured after reading your post I’d mention that I’m having similar issue.
I have noticed the same behaviour regarding mobile data - that works flawlessly.
If the issue occurs even when using WiFi 5, then I don’t think there is any relation to the WiFi hardware used.
I will reset my phone today and test if that makes any difference. However, seeing that multiple people are reporting the same issue, I feel that this could be a problem with either /e/OS or the Fairphone 6.
Had the same problem and found that this only happens at my home while connected to my Speedport router. I switched off the 5GHz channel and use only the 2.4GHz channel. Since this (2 weeks ago) I had no reboots or WIFI losts anymore. Funny is, that I can use the 5GHz at other routers without problems. It seems that the Telekom Speed port router is not 100% compatible with my. Fairphone 6.
In my case after the wifi breaks one has to reboot the phone for wifi to work again. I think if the driver and HAL were working correctly one wouldn’t have to do that even if any given wifi network is problematic.
I have the same problem in my home network with WiFi 6. Random disconnect, after which no networks are visible and a reboot fixes it. It happened when on version 3.2 and now also on 3.3.
My phone automatically connects to the 5GHz channel. Is it possible to force it to the 2.4GHz channel @Hardy_07? I don’t necessarily want to turn off the 5GHz channel on the router side.
Hi all. First post here, as a recent buyer of the /e/OS FP6. I have the same problem as described and got a bit worried seeing this was originally identified 5 months ago with no updates here. Is there somewhere else to follow the issue or anything I can do to contribute to it being fixed?
Although this issue started out slow (once a week?) I’m now experiencing it sometimes multiple times in a day!
