Feature request: Ability to record videos in loud environments

Hi,

with the highres cameras a FP6 can record video in high quality.

But astoundingly this is not true for audio… This could be a software issue, therefore I propose the introduction of either an automatic or a manual level control for audio. For the latter, a peak level indicator that is superimposed over the video would be useful.

Explanation: in most analogue to digital converter circuits there is a (programmable) pre-amp (op amp) before the ADC to achieve level control, or attenuator.

The default settings of this seem to be so ill-defined that in loud surroundings - say, a concert - only heavily distorted audio will be recorded because the audio exceeds the maximum allowed for the ADC…

So in a nutshell: A FP6 cannot record live music…

This is true for both camera and fpcam, even the audio recorder app…

Thanks

I unfortunately don’t have much know-how in order to fix this issue, but I did notice that the microphone input is very overdriven, even for normal speech in a quiet environment. I would hope that this is an easily-fixable software issue, and that we could have a workable solution sometime.

There is one way out, at least for taking videos: Blackmagic has a user-operable gain control setting, this eliminates overloading the analog-to-digital converter. But it does not help all other apps that rely on audio like Dancetime, a beat detector app. Or WhatApp video…
