With 3.14 the device worked fine. Upgrading to 3.2 was problematic and stop-start, but once it completed the problems started. Battery drain is huge.
After much troubleshooting, the issue seems to be related to WiFi drops. WiFi is WPA2, changing this to/from a WPA2/3 mix makes no difference. The issue also occurs irrespective of the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands or local device settings (metered, unmetered).
When in aeroplane mode with WiFi manually turned off and with no mobile SIM, the battery discharges very slowly; 1-2% over 12 hours. The battery is fine.
When operating on WiFi (2.4 or 5), without SIM (to isolate the problem) and clearly not in aeroplane mode, the battery can drop up to 15% within a 4 hour period. This is from a full charge. The battery app still shows that “mobile services” are consuming some battery, but the amount specified is low (4% of battery depletion owing to mobile services since full charge).
Following a full phone reset, the issue persists. When the phone is picked up, and with no other services manually in operation, all apps closed, no VPNs active etc, I can see the WiFi drop and reconnect. To be clear, this happens right next to my router, I have a plethora of other devices I cannot replicate this on and occurs irrespective of distance-to-unit (wireless router). I have no other ‘known networks’ on the device to ensure that it is not trying to connect elsewhere. No apps are installed.
The initial reason to upgrade was the Advanced Security mess that occurred last month in notifications - nothing resolved it and there was an update waiting anyway - so I updated the OS from 3.14 > 3.2. The Advanced Security notification issue has since disappeared, but to be replaced by a battery issue that renders the phone largely useless - it is no longer mobile and can run out quite quickly without much or any use.
There was additional drain on the battery, though not to this extent, when the Advanced Security issue happened whilst running e/OS 3.14, but I upgraded so quickly after that that I cannot say whether that is/was causing the issue OR if there is a problem specifically with e/OS 3.2.
Anyone else having similar issues?
