Feedback for v3.2

Problem: The Proton Drive app crashes.

After upgrading from the 3.2‑A14 to 3.2‑A15, the Proton Drive app has been crashing ever since. It worked fine before.

Since this last update installed smoothly and everything else worked afterward—actually some things that previously didn’t work (e.g., FMD) started working—I initially thought the issue was with the Proton Drive app. I exchanged several emails with Proton support, tested multiple alpha versions of the app, and we concluded that the problem lies with the /e/OS system.

It’s worth noting that I also installed the 3.2‑A15 official build on a Pixel 7 phone, where Proton Drive works flawlessly, whereas on my Xiaomi phone the app crashes with the 3.2‑A15 build.

Have the same problem with WiFi and A15 on FP5. Guest network seams to be a workaround. See:

Yesterday I made a fresh install from stock rom on my new device.

With 3.14 the device worked fine. Upgrading to 3.2 was problematic and stop-start, but once it completed the problems started. Battery drain is huge.

After much troubleshooting, the issue seems to be related to WiFi drops. WiFi is WPA2, changing this to/from a WPA2/3 mix makes no difference. The issue also occurs irrespective of the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands or local device settings (metered, unmetered).

When in aeroplane mode with WiFi manually turned off and with no mobile SIM, the battery discharges very slowly; 1-2% over 12 hours. The battery is fine.

When operating on WiFi (2.4 or 5), without SIM (to isolate the problem) and clearly not in aeroplane mode, the battery can drop up to 15% within a 4 hour period. This is from a full charge. The battery app still shows that “mobile services” are consuming some battery, but the amount specified is low (4% of battery depletion owing to mobile services since full charge).

Following a full phone reset, the issue persists. When the phone is picked up, and with no other services manually in operation, all apps closed, no VPNs active etc, I can see the WiFi drop and reconnect. To be clear, this happens right next to my router, I have a plethora of other devices I cannot replicate this on and occurs irrespective of distance-to-unit (wireless router). I have no other ‘known networks’ on the device to ensure that it is not trying to connect elsewhere. No apps are installed.

The initial reason to upgrade was the Advanced Security mess that occurred last month in notifications - nothing resolved it and there was an update waiting anyway - so I updated the OS from 3.14 > 3.2. The Advanced Security notification issue has since disappeared, but to be replaced by a battery issue that renders the phone largely useless - it is no longer mobile and can run out quite quickly without much or any use.

There was additional drain on the battery, though not to this extent, when the Advanced Security issue happened whilst running e/OS 3.14, but I upgraded so quickly after that that I cannot say whether that is/was causing the issue OR if there is a problem specifically with e/OS 3.2.

Anyone else having similar issues?

hello - do you know why this may be the case? I entered a lengthy response below for a Muerna One for WiFi disconnects and battery drain, but one omission I had is that when I initially connected to the guest network, all was well and battery drain was minimal. However since swapping between WiFi networks, and even with me removing ‘known’ networks on the device, reattaching myself to the guest network yields the same results, battery drain remains.

No particular problems with 3.2 update version except : 1/ Advance privacy pop up appears permanently 2/ I can’t send attached link anymore in the SMS application supplied with my phone, which leads to “ impossible to send this SMS”

Hello,
As I am in the same configuration (device, version, etc), I have the same Advanced Privacy frenzy.
The workaround proposed by AnotherElk is effective until the next version, which could resolve the issue.
And I have not noticed increased battery drain, unlike others on different phones.

But I can’t reproduce your second issue. I mean I can copy a link, share it to the standard SMS app, and send it.
Is that how you do it ?

Hello PLA, thank you for your reply :+1: .

I managed with Elk tips and it is OK now..

For SMS , i always proceed this way. On display, I click on top, (Share icon) and then i select among different API icons proposed. (Telegram, Message or Mail) It has always been OK until the last update to 3.2 version.

No drain battery problem observed since version 2. ?? update.

Hello AnotherElk, thank’s for this tip, everything is in order now. :+1:

Is there a plan to improve the home screen layout on /e/os? At the moment you just have a pile of icons for every app including ones you won’t, or rarely need to access (e.g gboard or apps that can be used as widgets like the calendar). And they can only be arranged at the top of the screen, plus widgets can’t be incorporated into the home screen. It’s pretty messy. Most Android systems have a customisable home screen on which you can arrange a few well-used apps, and a full list which can be accessed from a pull-up at the bottom of the screen. There’s also no option to group apps, for example banking, into a single icon.

Nope it is their philosophy and since years like that.

Install a different launcher and enjoy all the options you get

this option exist on Bliss…
also mutiple pages are possible.

CMF Phone 1 (Tetris)

Freshly installed with e/OS 3.2

Problems: Bootloader can not be locked - therefor official Apps like ID-Austria dont work.

Connection with my Nextcloud (WebDAV) does not sync the adressbook or the calendar. However, adding the account works. .well-known paths are ok and it work with all other OS‘s. Workaround App DAVx5 works - which also tells me that there is no problem with my nextcloud.

The camera App only utilize 12mpx, the camera can do 50. overall images have a very bad quality, even for this hardware.

Apps look like they are from 10 years ago. Some consistent design changes would be nice.

But overall, I get the idea and Im into e/os. I just want to give some feedback and I will buy a fairfhone from you to get rid of some problems…

It works well on both, thank you !

Additionally I am seeing this a lot on my FP5: app screens are not positioned properly and overlap with the time and network bar. It happens acroos different apps, not just the one below.

The installation went fine, but I’m having trouble with a few applications.

  • Into the Breach has disappeared from the launcher, but trying to install it again says it is already installed.
  • Some applications such as Octopus Electroverse still function, but can’t be upgraded — App Lounge just fails, Aurora says the app isn’t available for my phone.
  • Many applications can’t be installed at all — again App Lounge just fails (Install leads to Retry), Aurora says the app isn’t available for my phone. Examples include Electra, Ionity, or from the “Popular apps” section in Aurora, Snapchat, TikTok, WhatsApp, Instagram (I don’t care about these four, but I would expect them to be installable).

I’ve tried registering an account to report an issue properly, but GitLab says “Email is not allowed for sign-up. Please use your regular email address. Check with your administrator.” What are the restrictions on email addresses? I’m trying to use the same email address I used to sign up here.

seems to be a fp5 issue that will be fixed in 3.3

see here
(but reporting no longer seems necessary, as the issue was reported all over the place…)
