Galaxy S9 (starlte) – OTA update from /e/OS 3.7.1 to 4.0: “Continue” button stays disabled after countdown

Hello everyone,

I would like to report an issue with the OTA upgrade from /e/OS 3.7.1 to /e/OS 4.0 on my Samsung Galaxy S9.

Device information:

  • Vendor Name: Samsung

  • Device name: Galaxy S9

  • Device CodeName: starlte

  • Model number: SM-G960F

  • Previous /e/OS version: /e/OS 3.7.1-s-20260416608787-official-starlte

  • Current build type: Official build

  • Root status: Not rooted

Issue description:

The Updater offers the upgrade to /e/OS 4.0. After starting the update process, a warning dialog appears explaining that the device will be factory reset because the file system will be changed.

The dialog shows two buttons:

  • Cancel

  • Continue (disabled)

The “Continue” button displays a 10-second countdown in parentheses. The countdown reaches 0 and the number disappears, but the Continue button remains greyed out and cannot be pressed.

The issue is reproducible every time.

Steps already tried:

  • Battery level: 94%

  • Free internal storage: about 41 GB

  • Restarted the device

  • Cleared Updater app data/cache

  • Started the update process again after reboot

The behaviour remains unchanged: the countdown finishes, but the Continue button never becomes active.

Could anyone confirm whether this is a known issue with the Galaxy S9 (starlte) on the official /e/OS build, or suggest further troubleshooting steps?

As explained by someone else, I confirm that the workaround consisting to activate the speakerphone temporarily during the call works, making this issue much more acceptable, although not entirely.

Hi, I just wanted to say that after updating to version 4.1.1 – and also installing a new version of the app – I didn’t realise I should have tested the app before updating it. NFC is now working fine.

Hello, i’ve just update a hero2lte (Samsung galaxy S7 edge) from 3.4 to 4.1.1.

I was hoping to see the new look of 4.0 wallpaper /background image but I can’t find it in the dedicated menu.

So I second @msp query : where can one find this set of wallpaper ?

Edit :

While searching on gitlab, I read :

// The built-in wallpaper image can only change via an OTA,

But I updated via an OTA !?!

I recently discovered that sound can often be almost missing after having activated then deactivated the speakerphone (which stops the robot voice). So I then need to adjust the volume to get it back. But this rises painfulness again.

I don’t understand what happen there… Seems like a bug is swimming under the water level in the sound stack ! Is there any work ongoing on this subject ? Is there at least an opened issue to track it ? Can we help by sending some relevant log trace or anything else ? Let’s kill it now !

Thanks - I too was hesitating to follow those - I just had another look and discovered (via Kisses :-) How to Update GS290 from 4.0 to 4.1.1? - #7 by Jinh ) that the issue is there’s a checkbox at the end of the page that needs checking, but was unreachable in the dialogue. I changed the size of the text on the screen, and now I can see the checkbox…

This issue is open in backlog and someone is working on it :

Good news on 4.2 : robotics voice seems fixed. But some other bugs are still existing. I still need to adjust volume to start hearing my caller for exemple.
