FP6 Fingerprint sensor forgets my fingerprints, can't register again

e/OS v3.7.3

I set up my fingerprints some time ago. After a reboot, I saw a notification that said:

Set up Fingerprint Unlock again

“Finger 1”, “Finger 2” and “Finger 4” can no longer be recognized.

I tried to set them up again, but then at the end of the fingerprint setup, I get this pop-up:

Can’t complete fingerprint setup

You can try again now or set up your fingerprint later.

This happened more than once. Sometimes it works and I can add fingerprints. Then it gets removed again and can’t be readded. I tried wiping the fingerprint reader and my fingers. It doesn’t seem to change anything. Why is this happening and how can I solve this?

Thanks

I’m having the same issues.

It looks like the deleting might be an android 15 feature: Android 15 can automatically delete your face or fingerprint unlock if they aren't working well

The not registering is annoying, but it seems to have succeeded for me anyway as I can use the newly “registered” finger even though it doesn’t show up in the settings menu.

If anyone has more insight it would be appreciated!

EDIT: Didn’t realize I had already reacted here, well the below does have a better description I suppose.

I’m having the same issues. It seems to happen any time a fingerprint is automatically removed and I try to readd it.

From that point on I cannot add fingerprints properly anymore. They will be accepted after this error even though they don’t show up in the list of registered prints. And after a reboot they will be refused again.

The only workaround is a very tedious full resetting of all five of the prints and the problem will likely occur next reboot, as a fingerprint seems to be removed basically every reboot.

A fix would be well appreciated!

Confirming Squishy’s findings: My fingerprints are actually saved, it’s just the UI that insists that the setup has failed and refuses to show new fingerprints. Also, I can’t remove my old fingerprints. Nothing happens when I try to do so. In my experience, I also could not reset all five fingerprints. After the last update, I was able to delete one fringerprint. But the last one could not be deleted, it just got grayed out and stayed like that, with the “Add fingerprint” option grayed out as well.

Edit: After a reboot, I was able to remove the last fingerprint and add 3 new successfully. I wasn’t able to do this before the 4.1 update.

Hi!

I encountered this issue on a fresh install (from Fairphone’s ROM to /e/OS 4.1, installed this Saturday) … just in case this information is worth anything :folded_hands:
