Garmin Connect fails to start with latest update

No solution to this topic, but as /e/OS user with any concerns to privacy, using the app gadgetbridge is a super nice, privacy oriented, local stored solution for smartwatches. And an alternative to most of the Garmin Connect options.

I am using it with my Garmin watch on /e/OS for more than a year. Loving it!

Wich Garmin watch do you have?
My Fenix 6 is only partially supported

Garmin Connect had the same issue here when I was adding a bankcard to Garmin pay.
But now it is acting normal again.

Garmin Instinct 2 Tacticle Solar.

I would never use Garmin Pay, Google Pay, etc. on my phone or watch. We have cash money (!) or bankcards for this  . Garmin Pay needs Garmin Connect. If that is important to you, Gadgetbridge won’t solve this.

Well, sometimes I forget my wallet…
It’s for just in case
Haven´t needed it yet.

The Fenix6 functions that are supported in Gadgetbridge are not enough for me.
But if everything is supported I definately make the switch

Sorry about my naughty words, but this app is f****** amazing :star_struck::star_struck::star_struck: I never heard/read about it before, but it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. Thx for that hint!

Same here. I raised issue with Garmin support but was fobbed off with ‘I’ve got an unsupported OS’ so they can’t help. Complaint going in to them

Gadgetbridge

Nice, but my Vivoactive 5 is only partially supported. Whatever that means …

Better than not at all or a failing Garmin Connect

Gadgetbridge explains by the way per model which parts are supported.

Indeed, Garmin probably designs the best professional GPS navigation components and systems for trekking, aviation/avionics and marine use, but it is certainly not ‘Linux Friendly’ at all.
Just look at the fact that their ‘Garmin Connect’ software does not work on Linux, for example… So I doubt they give much credit to Custom ROM users, unfortunately…

Hello,

It works for me :

Best regards

Same problem, temporary solved by installing previous vetsion

Hey everyone.

Do you think there will ever be a fix, or are we going to be stuck with an old version? I just got a Garmin watch and I’m worried…

That said, today another Garmin app got an update (Connect IQ Store, the one which manages apps on the watch), and it’s also not working anymore for me. I guess it needs a downgrade too.

This is a question, that only could be answered by the microG developers.

As mentioned above, you can use the gadgetbride app, which is fully open source and more privacy friendly.

there already was a substantial fix to the split installer, merged end of July in microg v0.3.9 - not yet shipped in a /e/OS version, wait for v3.2.

One user at github claims to use v0.3.9 - but I’m unsure and asked to check again, at least the logcat output should look different and yield an insight as to why.

Hi Msp,

I tried gadgetbride app but detected hours for sleeping were not correct. I had 15h of sleep when I spent 7h in bed. I saw that time stayed in office on computer was added in sleep time.
I didn’t find how to configure properly the app.

About the sleeping time issue in Gadgetbridge in the previous post: I had this in the very beginning as well, but the gadgetbridge development did solve this very quickly.

Just report this with them. They are very helpful and responsive. Support this project as well!

Did you answer about sleeping time ? How did they fix it ?
For example, when I read a book quietly before going to bed, my watch (Garmin Venu2) includes it in my sleeping time.
On Garmin Connect, I can modify beginning and ending of my sleeping time but with GadgetBridge, I can’t (or I didn’t find how to do it). It’s a point I miss.
Anyway, GadgetBridge is a very good app.

Worked like a charm! Thank you!

I need to confirm that Garmin Connect 5.18.0 is woring correctly on my /e/OS phone (FairPhone 5)

Indeed, latest 5.18 app update did fix the issue.

So I just closed both issues:

Thanks to all for your involvement!
