Gigaset GS6, installation failed - request for help

Dear all,

trying to install e/OS on a GS6 I followed the online instructions to the oint where the device should be recognised - which isn’t. I’d be most grateful if someone could tell me what I’m doing wrong.

Thank you in advance

Michael

What browser and OS do you use?

Windows 11 and Aloha

Hi @michak

if you followed the instructions srictly you should check the usb-cable.
A charging-cable will not work, use a data-cable!
And maybe try another usb-port at your PC.
Is adb and fastboot installed on your PC?

By the way, I installed /e/OS on several Gigaset GS290 devices successfully via the /e/OS web-installer.

And, in the installer documentation you can read: Are there any specific browsers that I need to use?

  • Yes, it only works on Chrome-based web browsers because the /e/OS Installer requires WebUSB support.
  • An example of a Chrome-based web browser with default WebUSB support is Google Chrome. Support in browsers like Opera or Edge may depend on the version and may require additional configuration.

I used the brave-browser.

There are others like:

  1. ungoogled Chromium
  2. Vivaldi

Good luck!

Edit: Try to deactivate the vpn and adblocker inside your aloha-browser!

Thank you very much! This might be above my skills/experience.

Install /e/OS on a Gigaset GS6 / GS6 PRO - "GS6_Venus" | /e/OS documentation is only 3 copy / paste actions from your side …

you can use the help of a translator like DeepL Translator | World's Most Accurate Translator to get the context

To establish ADB connection, you need to react on the phone, too.
It will show a dialog if it should accept this kind of connection. Only after confirmation, it will open this “service channel”.

Thanks! Tried with Chrome and failed again :upside_down_face:

Maybe it is worth reading the documentation in full:

The error reports are useful, best if you can copy and paste them to the forum if asking for help.

USB problems are probably one of the most common causes of failure.

There is USB Ports Tester and Diagnostic Tool there is no feedback on the forum whether this test is helpful in your situation but it might be worth a try. It tests both your USB ports and cable but also WebUSB in your chosen browser and will likely flag up if your browser requires relaxed settings.

Good answer! Some USB ports have poor connections—for example, the ones on the front of the PC case. Try a USB port on the back of the PC. Those are connected directly to the motherboard. There are also low-quality cables that are only good for charging.
