Going from official A14 to community A15?

Hello all!

I have a Fairphone 5 that I installed the latest official A14 build from here: /e/OS official FP5 download , and as of writing, there is no A15 official build available. I need to restore a backup that was made on A15, and I don’t know when the website will be updated. So, my question is if it is possible to upgrade to the A15 community e os version via adb sideload, or will that screw up my phone?

Thank you!

Your trying to back up an A14 FP with a A15 backup, where is the backup coming from?

If you use official, than chances are high your bootloader is locked. In order to install community build, you need to unlock bootloader which will erase all your data on it.

Don’t give too much on it, but I was able to do this on a Fairphone :three: from A13 to A15 (with keeping the bootloader locked, no change made to it):

If you still try the same (make a backup before), please let us know here.

P.S.: From my memory now, the switch to A15 did not delete (the few) apps and data I had under A13.

Doesn’t your suggestion bring you into a locked community build device? Even though it is not possible anymore to lock bootloader on community? I mean can it be unlocked at somepoint?

Thank you for responding! I’m trying to restore an A15 backup that I made from my old phone and restore it to my new Fairphone 5 which has A14 on it.

Thank you so much for this! It looks like some people maybe had success with the FP4 as well. I’ll update if I try it. I don’t think there is a risk of bricking the phone as the bootloader is locked for the whole process.

When I first tried this (with the previous /e/ version), the /e/ recovery actually refused the sideload because (the recovery log on the screen stated that) the security patch level was not recent enough (I think anti-rollback protection was explicitly mentioned, too).

Right, that is the status quo on this FP3 now (see my link above).

I did not try that yet. In my link, you can see that OEM unlocking was activated and still is. I do not know if deactivating OEM unlocking now would have any relevant consequences.
