Google maps, is there a sort of privacy friendly way to use?

Hi, just returned from vacation. We tried to go fully e/os only. Unfortunately some moment it wasn’t enough. Especially Google Maps was a big mis.

Question: Is there a way to use Google Maps on E/OS in a way I only share data with them when I use it?

This would only be a couple of times a year.

By browser didn’t work because I could not navigate only search locations.

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

Use a second phone. Not sure if you can avoid the google account and still get newat version of Google Maps.

GMaps WV (as for WebView) offers Google Maps in an accessible way. It wraps the Google Maps website as if you’d open it in the browser. Good backup when travelling, esp. for public transit in my own experience.

That’s the problem …

The website (and thus GMaps WV) goes as far as route planning, but it doesn’t do real car navigation currently.

Just installed Gmaps VW and it looks te work oké!

So this (GMaps VW) is a save privacy friendly way that always works?

I’m running e/OS on a FP6 and installed Google Maps inside a work profile using Shelter. I did not log in using any account and Google Maps works fine with microG but you have to use an older version of the app. You can manually download it from Aurora store (I use version code 1067793820). When I’m done with it, I close the work profile and the app cannot communicate anymore. Everything seems to work fine but I did not test extensively.
