Google Play Services on my FF 5 and no idea where it comes from

Since a while I do have a Google Play Services App on my phone. No idea where it comes from? Regularly it want’s to be updated and I cannot update it nore delete it. I thought microG does this job? What are your recommendations to get rid of it?

microG include a fake “Gogol Play Services” package that cannot be updated alone, it will be updated with the /e/ system update

How does it tell you this?

  1. in Aurora Store I see “please update Google Play”.
  2. I start updating.
  3. While updating there is a message “There is a package causing conflict”.
  4. no update possible.
  5. Do I need Google Play after all? I cannot delete it because I cannot find it in the apps. I can only find microG.

So Aurora store has become confused by the presence of microG version of com.android.vending. Aurora store’s Settings, top right, has Blacklist manager where this should already be blacklisted, maybe this needs checking, MicroG Companion.

Clearly Google Play Store should not be installed or updated.

In current Aurora Store, alternatively there’s Settings - Updates - Filter apps from other sources (“Don’t check for updates for apps installed from sources outside Aurora Store”).
Just enabling this should spare users from handling the blacklist.

Ofc @AnotherElk this is better to check first, I think before coffee I forgot where to find this … Aurora store Settings icon, top right > Settings > Updates

Thanks mate for all your efforts.
I cannot excluce google play in the black list manager as I cannot find the google play app. under settings I have done all necessary. So I am at a loss.

Have you taken in the different names I have included, microG Companion = com.android.vending as in the image in Post #5. The link to the blog post fully explains the nature of Google Play Store.

As for the second suggestion just don’t allow Aurora store to “Update from sources outside Aurora Store”.
