Health Connect backups fail with 0byte Zips

Health Connect is an app that is part of the AOSP since Android 14. It’s very useful when you have multiple data sources (esp., multiple health sensors) and want to aggregate the data to get more out of it.

There seems to be an issue with /e/OS and it’s ability to back up the data (using the Health Connect data backup schedule). When I set the schedule, it creates the backups but they are only 0 byte zip files with nothing in them. I most definitely have data stored in HC as it is utilized by apps like OpenVitals

Can anyone confirm that they are able to create the backups using the HC data export schedule?

The only other option I have for backing up this data is to NextCloud in JSON format using another app called “Cairn”.

Is it possible that the scheduled backups are dependent on Google Play somehow?

Exists in /e/OS Version 15

com.android.health.connect.backuprestore

and

com.android.healthconnect.controller

I assume that you are using some other app? Sounds like possibly that app is Google dependent. There are a number of privacy respecting apps which will work with the AOSP “hub”.

Some such apps could be researched from
