Hello! I have been happily using the app for Helsingin Sanomat (the largest newspaper in Finland) with /e/OS for multiple years already. Since about two weeks ago, it started crashing on startup. If I recall correctly, after the first crash I the deleted app cache and got it to start once. After that it has been crashing and none of cache clear, app data removal or reinstallation help. The crash may be related to /e/ OS update to 4.2 or app update. Or not. I don’t have accurate enough notes available to tell. Are there other HS readers here, and do you experience the same?
I collected logs and the crash is visible there, however I figured it is better to ask here first before reporting to one or both of HS customer support and /e/ OS bug tracker.
App ID: fi.hs.android
Version: 7.79.0
I got a private message suggesting installing from Aurora Store instead of App Lounge might work better. I tried that, but unfortunately the crash still happens.
I forgot to say in the original post: I have Fairphone 4 with /e/ OS official 4.2.
Try installing newer version of webview, the google one
I installed Android WebView Beta from App Lounge and that indeed fixed the issue. Thank you!
Now it seems I have to do my research on what effect does keeping that component on my phone have on my goal of de-Googling, and what’s up with /e/ OS default webview here.
I updated to /e/ OS 4.3.1 and Helsingin Sanomat now works with the default webview. I think it is this line in the release notes:
Browser Fixed a WebView preconnect crash causing third-party apps like X (Twitter) to crash on launch.
