How can I make sure that my Murena Gallery (and Fairphone) is only showing photos in the gallery not images uploaded to document?

Hi there,

I am new here and just recently bought a Fairphone (6) with e/OS and have created a Murena account. The syncing between the Fairphone and Murena account is working perfectly so there is no syncing problem. However, I recently downloaded all my files from my Google drive (as I want to leave Google) and uploaded them in several folders in the document section in my Murena account. This worked fine, until I opened my phone (and also the gallery of the Murena account) and saw all the photos - which were in specific folders in the documents - appear in my gallery. I do not want that as it are also images for books etc. and not photos. I tried to find if there is a way to deselect that syncing and show in the gallery (and my phone) only photos, but could not find it anywhere.

It is not that big of a problem, but a bit annoying because every time I will now upload an image (not a photo) in my documents, it will show on my phone. Would someone have advice? Thank you!

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online services

Because of the stock Gallery app has no options at all you can probably not do much there.

You could try to place a .nomedia file in each of these uninteresting folders. This file can be empty, it’s just it’s existence which tells some scanners that there are no interesting files. Don’t know if this works also with images.

An ordinary way would be to use another gallery app, Aves (from F-Droid) will do the job very well.

Thank you! I downloaded the Aves app and it also shows everything. I will try with the nomedia file and otherwise, it will be fine like this. Thanks for your help.

Fossify Gallery allows exclusion of folders

Finally thank you sooo mich for this recommendation. I was struggling for ages with images from ancient School projects, just because nextcloud synced everything, being on top of my albums. Fossify rocks!

Initially yes…

… but you can configure what you see. At the bottom is a bar with four items, the right most item (1) brings you to a view which shows “Albums” (these are just places). You can select one (2) and then you get in the top right corner a three-dots-menu. There’s a menu item called “Hide” (3), this excludes this “Album” from being shown.
