How do I know I've received a message if the screen is off and I miss the first notification?

I have a shiny new FP5, recently installed e/os and am really enjoying it. One little bug with the Bliss Launcher which I don’t use, but not a showstopper.

I do however have this observation and question: I use Signal a lot and when I get a message with the screen off, my phone vibrates and I briefly see a notification come up on the screen. If I don’t happen to see this notification, which happens a lot, how do I know there’s a message waiting for me without constantly checking my phone?

I moved to FP5 from an old Samsung S9, (screen died), which had both a LED and, when I waved my hand over the camera with the screen off, it would light up and show me the notification. By contrast, FP5 has neither of these. Any thoughts?

Oh well, I guess this is not such a big deal for FP5 users. I’ll have a look on the FP forums.

On a tip from the FP forums I installed Wave-up. It doesn’t seem to have much of an impact on my battery life and works pretty well with a simple wave over the screen.

First thought WaveUp is really great, but unfortunately, it’s a massive battery drain.

Ah, that sucks. It seems to have no real impact for me but then again, seeing as this phone is brand new and I’ve been running wave-up since pretty much the start, I don’t have a good idea of what battery life would be without it.

Without any heavy usage, my also brand new FP5 would use ~20 % per day. With WaveUp the same was gone over night already, going from up to 5 days to less than 2 days of battery life.

Yeah that’s not good. I think I’m a relatively heavy screen user, lots of reading, and I usually have around 35% at midnight, whereas my old Samsung S9 was dead by 5pm. Maybe I’ll turn it off for a day and see what happens.
