How to import notes backup from murena to notes app

Hello,

I have downloaded the restoration file from murena and there’s all my notes that I had on the notes app of /e/ before their crash. How can I add all the notes on the notes app again without having to copy/paste each one by one.

Thank you for your help.

I had no notes then, what does the file look like, a .json export of the Notes as the App nowadays creates?

In principle, reimport into the on-device App can be done by placing .md files back into the /Notes/ folder at murena.io.

If they’re all in one .json export, it needs a bit of an iterating script to write out each entry into a .md file individually.

Thank you for your suggestion. Sorry to answer so lately.

All the notes are separated in .txt file for each note I’ve taken.

Do you know how I can restore to an .md file or to a .json file ?

if you have separate files, you should be able to just reimport them through the file view on the cloud Notes/ folder, what am I missing?

There’s a setting as to what the default is, maybe try with .txt and put your files there, they should then show up on the webapp and device

I copied the .txt files in the notes folder on murena and changed the setting of notes on murena to .txt and everything came back !

Thanks a lot for your help !

Long life to the /e/ community !

Kind regards

if you use Notes alot, Obsidian is superior to the default notetaking app both in UI and concept - it’s fully file based instead of sqlite<->api stores.

You can even make it cross-compatible to both web-based murena.io and the default Notes app by using a subdir to Documents/ (Documents/Notes) as basedir in the web settings and in Obsidian.

While it’s good that murena added .json Export for Notes, it’s a measure of last resort.

I had exactly the same issue and at tceyk’s recommendation, tested and moved all my notes to Obsidian instead. It is greatly superior in terms of functionality and also it is much easier to organise / manage notes, including import and export. Even if you have managed to re-import your notes using the default e/os app, if you have a lot of notes, you might want to try out Obsidian anyway.

Looks really polished…
I’d throw in joplin, which is worth a recommendation as well. I use it cross platform on several devices all syncing with a folder in the murena cloud (via webdav/nextcloud) … much like the setup @tcecyk suggests for obsidian from what I understand … and I am very satisfied with it.
