[HOWTO] Backup and Restore Data on Android Devices

Ir you have /e/OS installed then a factory reset will not bring you back to stock. It will factory reset /e/OS.

Pixel devices can be flashed to stock with the flash tool from Google.

I am not sure to understand. I’d like to backup a Fairphone 6 (once a compatible TWRP version will get released). If I install the official e/OS on this phone and then re-lock the bootloader, does this mean I won’t be able to use TWRP to perform a Nandroid backup? Would that work only if the bootloader remains unlocked after unstalling e/OS?

Unless a miracle happens on the Fairphone 6, this would be correct.

Most probably yes, but unless then a second miracle happens on the Fairphone 6, you would not be able to use TWRP to backup user data, because it’s encrypted and TWRP can’t deal with this on the Fairphone 3 (at least the TWRP version available on twrp.me can’t), on the Fairphone 4 and on the Fairphone 5.
And this is not even a feature TWRP is supposed to support by all means … Why doesn't TWRP support encryption on my device?.

If you want to face reality … forget TWRP, use other means. /e/OS has Rooted debugging in the Developer options. This can be used to get access to deeper levels of the filesystem without rooting the whole phone. There are backup scripts (Or perhaps even Apps in the meantime? Don’t know) which use this.
Else … Supposedly Seedvault, included in /e/OS as a backup solution, gets better and better, perhaps search the forum whether this could work for you.

I used Open Android Backup recently, to migrate from my Xperia XA2 Ultra to Samsung S7. Although the way to restore the zip-file to the new phone seems unlogical, it works. It was even able to restore e-mail and WhatsApp-messages. GitHub - mrrfv/open-android-backup: Back up your device without vendor lock-ins, using insecure software or root. Supports encryption and compression out of the box. Works cross-platform. · GitHub
