[HOWTO] Installing Banking Apps

I have no luck with DKB-TAN2go on a fresh install of /e/ Pie 0.7 and
Magisk 20.3 on a Samsung S5 (klte). Any ideas? Here is what I did:

  1. Installed e-0.7-p-2020022042012-dev-klte.zip according to
    https://doc.e.foundation/devices/klte/install with TWRP:
    a) Format Data
    b) Wipe System and Cache
    c) Sideload /e/

  2. Sideload Magisk-v20.3.zip

  3. Installed busybox via Apps, opened it, and granted eternal root access.

  4. Configured Magisk:
    a) Hide Magisk Manager, new name: Manager. Magisk Manager quits, needs
to be restarted, asks to download Magisk Manager, yes.
    b) Enabled Core Only Mode
    c) Magisk Hide was already enabled.

  5. Checked Trust settings: fine.

  6. Installed DKB-TAN2go via Apps without opening it.

  7. Enable it in Magisk Hide.

  8. Started DKB-TAN2go, but I only get redirected to the page
    https://www.dkb.de/info/banking_app/hinweis.html

  9. So I completely uninstalled Magisk via the Magisk Manager.

  10. Started DKB-TAN2go again, which succeeded.

for some users Tan2Go works out of the box. No root needed.

So I would prefer to remove all, incl. MagisK and start with a plain eOS.

Thanks for your quick answer! For a couple of reasons I’d like to have the phone rooted. So it seems it’s either root or TAN2Go in my case. Or are there any tricks worth trying?

no, sorry. if you really need root (what is very bad, because the phone gets unsecure with root) and the HowTo is not working (for al lot of people it is working) you will have a big problem, sorry

In fact when I download N26 software from Aurora it looks properly installed and I even transferred some money to the account and checked the balance but when I tried to pay from the account it was impossible. So after many chat with N26 support I decided to close the account. So it is too late to try without root. I am very upset because soon it will be necessary to go through Gg even to apply for a driving licence!!! Thank you for you help.

Thank you. I will investigate but first I think that I will have
to decide to remove root because I am afraid that all the banks
will have the same policy soon or later.

Hi,
Just had the same behaviour with CIC on a new phone (santoni/Pie) and get it working

In Settings/MicroG/“Google Cloud Messaging” the status was disconnected.
Maybe no app can register in this state ?
I ran the adb root command as described here : https://github.com/microg/android_packages_apps_GmsCore/issues/660
Then conducted a test using a very useful app : https://github.com/bbindreiter/PushNotificationTester_App

After some tries the app managed to register with Google Cloud Messaging, and the status changed to “Connected”

Then I re-installed the CIC app and everything went smoothly
I can now see CIC as a registered app for push notifications in MicroG.

I forgot to mention : SIM with no data access, WiFi only.

Hope this can help !

BTW (I know, not related with banking apps), activating the MicroG push system also allowed me to use Microsoft Authenticator app (restore from cloud).

Maybe some other problems are related to this Google push system, and we should start a new forum thread about it ?

Hello!

I just wanted to report, that I have successfully used this guide with my banking app.
The app is for ING Bank Romania, called ING Home’Bank.

Cheers!

Hi I confirm that the UK Triodos bank app from Aurora works on standard /e/ without Magisk.

I can confirm that french bank CIC app is working out-of-the-box (if you have problems with notifications, see previous posts).
So french bank Crédit Mutuel app should also work

I had to install Magisk for another purpose, then CIC app refuses to launch.
To have my banking app back to work, I installed BusyBox & MagiskHidePropConfig Magisk modules.

Good morning, Xiaomi Mi 8 I followed the guide of @ harvey186, Magisk and BusyBox installed, my Italian bank apps don’t work,
SafetyNet API is always error, maybe I should run this “https://github.com/DeicPro/xiaomi-safetynet-fix”
or other advice.

Thanks

A lot of banking apps won’t work. The saftynet will always fail, because of microG.

Have you tried without rooting your device. ?

hi harvey186, I have Settings / Security / Trust / Root Access / Disabled, do you say this?

No, if you have used the howto, you have installed magisk. That’s for rooting. And alit if apps are checking that. So you can try without magisk installed.
