I hate this phone, but I want to love it (US)

I can’t get the most basic things to work and I’ve tried everything available on the web and emailed both fairphone and murena with no reply. Help!

  • I’m migrating over from iPhone and can’t get anything to migrate over
  • When I get a call, nothing pops up so I can’t answer
  • I’m not receiving most of my texts

Let’s start there before I throw thus phone in a lake

were the iphone docs no help at all?

in the apple-ios tag you can find questions other Apple users had.

Texts - if you were used to iMessages, they need to fall back to SMS to work and I think that can be a source of issues.

Calls: do they generally work outbound, and it is a notification issue on inbound?

Which carrier is it?

Refund is always an option if you bought recently.

Fairphone currently neither sell nor support Fairphones in the US, Murena do. So you can expect Murena to reply if you bought the phone from them.

Did you deregister iMessage? If not, iMessages might still go to iMessage (while SMS go to your new phone).

As puzzling as it is that this can happen at all, it’s not unheard of on Android.

Please check Settings - Notifications - App notifications - All apps (instead of Most recent) - Phone (especially - Incoming calls).

Make sure Settings - Apps - See all … apps - Phone - Display over other apps is allowed.

Export your contacts in *.vcf format and you will have no issues with contacts. Then import them into the FP6.

I am in Canada and have very similar experience to USA users. I use a Moto phone.

What type of SIM (eSIM or SIM) are you using an who is your provider in the US?

Thank you all!!

I’ll check out the iPhone docs but I’ve done a lot of trouble shooting already.

I unregistered my phone from imessage, changed my device to SMS/MMS through my carrier and reset the APN..just a few of the many suggestions I followed. Group messages don’t work at all and the only thing I can think of, without having to ask every iPhone user to make sure they switch on the SMS fallback, is that I’m somehow connected through my icloud account? I’m running out of ideas..

I have a physical SIM from T-Mobile

With contacts I believe I tried to export them in that format but when I went to ‘export all’ from icloud or contacts it would only export one contact at a time..did you have a similar issue or work around?

The issue is receiving calls..I think you’re right about the display switch..it’s in the on position but not green and I am unable to turn it on or off.

Anyone know what the caution sign or half smiley in the upper bar means?

Also, is anyone using Nextcloud?

I don’t recognise those but a clue to available status bar symbols is found

Settings > System > Status bar > Status bar icons

(Over generalised) icons on the right are from system and on the left for “things going on”.

  • Contacts: haven’t done .vcf export from iCloud in a longer time, but when I did, select-all / bulk export was possible via a button. This guide has screenshots of that: [HOWTO] Import contacts from Apple to /e/ cloud - the official docs say you can do command-a / control-a to select-all, and then hit the export button, maybe that was it?
  • “anyone using nextcloud?” murena.io itself is a nextcloud instance and there are many who self-host. You can point a /e/OS phone at any nextcloud and things should work.
  • caution sign / half smiley: in doubt, show a screenshot
  • Calls notifications: do you mind screenshotting this too? the general option is “on and grey”, but the permission to display over other apps - what AnotherElk alludes to - is a few options down and should be green and switchable
  • Messages: can your carriers customer support disable RCS and iMessages for your number? how widespread are OTT messengers (Signal, Whatsapp, ..) in your social circle?
