Impossible to use WhatsApp on my new Fairphone 6 /e/os Murena Phone

Hi. When I try to set up WhatsApp on my new phone I am stuck at the 1st step. I write my phone number, I validate and i see a brief “Connexion” message with loading circle and it comes back at start with no error message.

I tried to uninstall, reinstall several times.

I tried to download and install official WhatsApp apk with same result.

I tried to uninstall WhatsApp on my older phone (Fairphone 4 with FairphoneOS) and nothing changed on my new phone.

I had no problem when I migrated Signal and Telegram, but as you can imagine, a lot of my contacts are in WhatsApp only…

I need your help please :folded_hands:t3:

Do you have more devices where you van delete your Whatsapp devices (maybe you can make an backup before), delete whatsapp and delete your history and also cookies.
Perhaps you can also try to install WA with Aurora Store?

But something to think about?

Why you still need it to use Whatsapp?
In my case…I use Signal but if it is really important, people can also call, mail or texting you with SMS if they are not willing to use Signal.
You can also use Signal as primary for SMS.

Whatsapp is stealing your data and several times my account was hacked or i get strange messages with it.
If you are really concerning about your privacy and you data, it wil help if people stop using Google/Big-tech apps. The only reason why the most people do not use something else is because they are not willing to try something else.
I would bet for it that most people do not need Whatsapp in their lives, but they are conditioned to think that they needed it.

Hello. Yes, i have my old Fairphone with WhatsApp installed and I did a backup this morning.

What do you mean when you say “delete WhatsApp” : on wich device?

You advice to delete history and cookies but I use an app, not a browser

No change with the app installed on Aurora Store

Maybe you have other devices installed whatsapp with the same number?
Sorry :face_with_hand_over_mouth: I mean stop the proces in apps murena app-store and i thougt you can delete settings of history from it. Update Murena and the app-store if possible and try to reinstall with Aurora Store.
Still do not work?
Did you delete your whatsapp account before installing eOS?
Or do you have a rooted device?
I never had problems with Whatsapp on my Fairphone 5 and 6 when is i use that app with eOS, but maybe its a problem that comes with V4.0?
I do only use Whatsapp on my businessphone.

Indeed, as I said, I have my old phone.

When I uninstall WhatsApp, the system automatically closes the app and and removes all app data.

No, I didn’t delete my WhatsApp account. If I do this, I will lose all my data…

My new Fairphone 6 is not rooted. My old Fairphone was rooted since last year but he hasn’t been since.

Maybe this could help?

I saw this topic but nothing new : I tried uninstall & reinstall with Aurora Store with no change. I haven’t the same message so I probably need a different fix…

Hello,

I have similar issue. I can download the app but it can not installed on App Lounge. It is written retry after the unsuccessful installation. I tried a couple of times and it does not work. I try now on Aurora store, where I can again successfully downloading the app but the installation fails because it is now an hour tried to do it. How can I fix it?

I have the latest update 4.0. When I look into my installed app, i have com.whatsapp not installed for this user. I click on it and I can not uninstall.

Kind regards,

Viktor

Whatsapp installs and open just fine on my phone? Just now from the App Lounge.

When WhatsApp fails to install for new /e/OS users is it because new users expect to be able to install WA and import the contents of their account all within WA? Do you @Jets take other steps to import your “content”?

On second thoughts, perhaps you don’t have “history” there.

No that is true @aibd I only ever had Whatsapp on my phone for a month and it was fresh install. Buy the end of the mouth I had coaxed the other person on Whatapp to Signal Private Messneger.

Are you sure you disabled “Hide my IP “ ?

Hi. Thanks for your answer. Yes it’s disabled.

Hi, I have the same issue: I recently bought a Fairphone 6 with e/OS/ and Whatsapp gets stuck on “connecting“ and doesn’t continue to the next step. I have uninstalled it and installed it again, I have rebooted my phone… I have also tried to install Whatsapp on another phone, and it works just fine on the same version, so I guess it has to be the e/OS/. The most frustrating part is that I got to use Whatsapp on the new phone (Fairphone 6) with no issues, but I disconnected it, and after I updated the e/OS/ software to 4.0, it no longer works.

Just as @MichielP80 suggests, I would love not to use Whatsapp, but I have no other option to contact the majority of people around me, including work related stuff, so here we are.

I would really appreciate some help. Thanks in advance!

Thanks, @aibd , I can link my phone to my account without any problem, but the main device is still my old phone, so I depend on it. It is a good option for the moment, for sure, but I don’t think that is the definite solution… Thanks again, tho!

Hi,

Strange that this is happen.

A few days ago i also bought a new Fairphone 6 and installed eOS 4.0 without any issues.
Only the bootloader is still unlocked because i am waiting for the update on July.
But after downloading and installing Whatsapp, i was able to verify it (do not connect Google account for backup) without any issues, so this is not a problem on every Fairphone 6.
I deleted the account, because i do not use whatsapp.

But i have an other problem thats not on-topic.
My internet connection fails and i have to go to the internet settings, change it to 3G en restart the connection. Then i got Internet but slow an i can back to 5G.
I remember this problem at my old Fairphone and ik do not know where it comes from.

My WhatsApp has also been a little temperamental lately. It likes to minimise the app as soon as I log in with fingerprint. This behaviour has gotten worse since the latest e/OS update, which I assume is due to the usual tug of war between big tech and privacy focused OS.

It’s actually pretty hard to migrate away from WhatsApp. I’m in several group chats with a majority of users who aren’t tech savvy and won’t be up for the occasional tinkering required to use operating systems such as e/OS. Sure, you can try spreading the word, educating people about what’s going on with the fight for privacy and security, but that can quickly become a rather exhausting full-time job.

Currently discussing the idea of running workshops at a local community centre to raise awareness, particularly among parents who have recently been applauding the UK’s U16 social media ban.

Hi. Is the support team working on a fix about this problem? Can I expect a quick solution?
