Install /e/OS from Lineage OS

Hello,

I use a Redmi note 8 (ginkgo) with Lineage OS installed on it.
I am trying to switch to /e/OS but I keep failing to install the /e/ recovery image.
I keep getting to a “the system is destroyed” screen, then the phone reboots to Lineage.
I browsed the topics and it seems that the linage recovery can be used to install /e/OS, but I wil need the /e/ recovery for future updates.

Can someone confirm that it is safe to flash /e/OS from the lineage recovery ? Or maybe there is something I can do to make the /e/ recovery work ?

Have a lovely day

Probably as long as they are both the same Android version. What Android versions are you working with on LineageOS and on /e/OS?

I have Android 11 installed and the latest /e/OS available for my phone is also 11 (R Community)
Installed build number is 11 RQ3A.211001.0019a630bc3d3

You can use Lineage-recovery,
The recovery-e will be installed along /e/OS.

Yes, usually Lineage recovery should work!

Well It did not work, the phone will boot to fastboot all the time now

What was your Lineage version ?

It was lineage 18.1, the latest update available for this phone from a few months ago

In this case, a factory-reset is needed.

I can’t factory reset anymore, the recovery does not works (I get a “the system is destroyed” screen). The phone will only boot to fastboot as I mentioned

Sorry to read that, try to fastboot flash the recovery

Also there is a “/e/OS-T” (android 13 based) version

This thread Redmi Note 8T (Ginkgo) stuck in fastboot mode after eOS 2.1 update (from 1.21) does not read at all optimistically for /e/OS ginkgo at the end of the run of Android 11 (R).

In my case the phone is still detected by fastboot, but I still can’t flash the /e/ recovery. I am now trying to flash the lineage recovery back on it, but I can’t find any downlods for it, Lineage does not supports my phone anymore.

I have the non-T version

i mean… e-2.3-t-20240826-UNOFFICIAL-ginkgo.zip
instead of e-2.2-r-20240719418592-dev-ginkgo.zip

Ok, but I can’t install it anyways since the recovery is broken

Edit : I tried to flash the twrp recovery, it did not work
Edit (2) It worked

I managed to install the unofficial T version from TWRP.
That solves my problem, thank you everyone for your quick replies !

For future reference:

  • old builds of LineageOS can be found here These are the main ROM zip file only, no recovery images
  • old builds of LineageOS for microG can be found here, including the main ROM zip files, and the other images, including recovery
